Turns out, Valentino too thinks New York City is the reigning fashion capital of the world. Last week the fashion house packed up stunning haute couture and traveled oversees to the Big Apple for their first couture showing in Manhattan, ever. It was a big night for a fashion, and a big night for Valentino – who showed a heavenly white and demure collection in remembrance of the classic 1968 White Collection. 46 white looks walked the white runway, each more breathtakingly demure than the last. From petticoats to cashmere capes, it was all very posh, ladylike and supremely Valentino!
The Best Pre-Fall 2015 Looks, So Far
Alas, the Pre-Fall 2015 Collection season is in full swing, and this season: there is no limit to chic. 2014 American Music Awards : Worst Dressed
Oh you just know when something like the American Music Awards pops-up, I’m bound to have a Worst Dressed List the very next day. What can I say, as much as I yearn for killer fashion on the acting red carpets, I long for whacked-out fashion from the music world. In fact, I was literally crushed Katy Perry wasn’t in attendance because poking fun at her red carpet ensembles has become like sport! (She did look awesomely weird while accepting an award via video, naturally.)
While it did crush me that power-hitters like Gaga, Miley and Rhianna weren’t in attendance…we did have another Cyrus, some Kardashians and a naked lady. Okay, it wasn’t all horrible. There are loads of favorite looks on my Best Dressed List, but let’s forget about those for a minute and embrace what really matters: the bad!
Event : Amy Kirchen Fashion Show
When Amy Kirchen hosts a fashion show, I go running – literally. I’ll sign up for her classic and seductive designs anytime, even if that means scrambling from a long day of work to get there. To me, a trip to Amy Kirchen’s Boutique is like stepping into another world – with one sharp, chic lady holding the reigns. Kirchen’s aesthetic is filled with decadence and romance. Guests pass through white column pillars into her crystal showroom, lined with the finest garments and jewelry. It is a room so elegant you quite forget you’re tucked away in American suburbia. And so, an Alice in Wonderland theme that urged attendees to Enter through the Looking Glass couldn’t be more appropriate. Amy’s world is a beautiful place, and one I always appreciate a glimpse at.
An Amy Kirchen event is also always a good excuse to connect with another Amy in my life, Amy Wray of Mod City Magazine. It’s like, Amy Squared! Birds of a feather flock together, and these fashion-minded gals are lots of fun to hang out with. Sometimes us gals need time to gush about fashion over champagne (and cupcakes).
Best of Resort 2015 : Cushnie et Ochs
I feel at this point I should just dub this the Resort 2015 Collection week here at Dream in Lace, considering I have nothing else running through my fingers but collection after collection. What can I say? I love a good bit of cruise wear. And as someone who doesn’t really fawn after Cushnie et Ochs that much, I had to give props for such a fabulous collection. I do love the bits of color thrown in…and even an animal print here and there to offset the ivories of seasons past.
Perhaps my favorite number is a very Balmain Fall 2014-esque militant cross-stitch. It looks so cool with the models slicked back hair and smokey eye. Almost like Cushnie et Ochs has gone a bit darkside, which would be absolutely great.
If nothing else, I appreciate the cutouts of this collection being cut down to a minimum. There’s that fine line between something being signature v. something being overkill, and I’m happy they were reigned in from going over the edge. It’s nice to see chops outside of cutouts – without losing their identity completely. You know, adding in a cape or two always makes me smile 😉
Best of Resort 2015 : NoNoo
When it comes to up and coming designers, Nonoo is at the very top of my list. Her clothes are sophisticated without being stuffy. They’re clean, crisp designs that are young…but not frilly. Similar to Nina Ricci, I browse each collection thinking, “I know this women. Wait, I AM this woman!”And Resort 2015 is no exception with cobalt blue and v-necks aplenty.
Generally speaking, this collection is like the modern young professional meets the tennis court. It’s sporty, without being casual. And it’s always refreshing when a Resort collection appears to be something one could wear, at you know, a resort. Which might sound a bit odd, but if you’ve been browsing the collections of Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs, I think you’ll catch my drift.
Yes, in the spirit of Resort and Cruise…these are cheery looks that you could wear on vacation…or to the office….or to the country club. They’re contemporary prepster clothes that would follow a young lady wherever she goes. Kudos to Nonoo.
