Indulge yourself in the best NYFW looks from this rather different Fall 2021 season!
I’m just going to go ahead and say it: I miss normal life. Particularly when it comes to the fashion week circuit as the pandemic has prompted everything to shift into this new normal that is, well, rather flat.
When NYFW wrapped in February 2020, it was the end of an era. Obviously we don’t know exactly where things will go in the future and any long term effects on the fashion calendar the pandemic will have, but virtual fashion week in many ways seems kind of pointless. Why continue to make fashion week a thing when in-person shows can’t take place? Why aren’t designers taking an approach like they do for Resort and Pre-Fall seasons, releasing collections when they’re ready? Is the CFDA doing a good enough job or they slow to adapt a model the world has largely moved on from?
These are just a few questions that played in my mind throughout this rather different New York Fashion Week. Nonetheless, the Big Apple did deliver new fashions for the Fall 2021 season and while we ponder the future of NYFW as a whole — we can at least celebrate the best looks that emerged from the pack.
The BEST NYFW Looks
While this season’s schedule was lacking a lot of the names we most rely on to deliver MAJOR glamour (i.e. Carolina Herrera, Christopher John Rogers and Brandon Maxwell), Prabal Gurung truly stepped up to the plate! So much so that THREE of the 17 best NYFW looks I’ve selected below come from his Fall 2021 collection. Alongside him? Heavyweights like Proenza Schouler and 3.1 Phillip Lim as well as a new favorite – SUKEINA.
I also found myself a must-have bootie and several dreamy overcoats to keep us stylishly warm next winter!
So, my fellow fashionistas, feast your eyes on my picks for the best NYFW looks below and let me know if you have any favorites from the Fall 2021 collections!
3.1 Phillip Lim
Let’s start off our look at the best NYFW looks from the Fall 2021 season with 3.1 Phillip Lim because there was A LOT to unload from this collection. In this look alone I want to draw attention to 1) mustard yellow as a hot color for fall 2) a fantastic overcoat with conveniently attached gloves 3) cropped trousers!!
3.1 Phillip Lim
Yes, I selected another look from 3.1 Phillip Lim because — again, there was A LOT happening in this collection. Ballet flats marry kitten heals for an ultra feminine foray in footwear. The cutout look we first saw in Prada’s Spring 2021 collection makes its mark as well as an embellished camel overcoat that is undeniably FAB-U-LOUS.
ADEAM
The perfect combination of boho and contemporary.
ADEAM
Yes! I do consider these booties to be one of the BEST NYFW looks of this season. I wish I could have these in my closet right this second. #need
Gabriela Hearst
Ahead of her debut collection as creative director at Chloe (scheduled for a digital premiere on 3/3), Gabriela Hearst proved her namesake brand is still playing strong!
Jason Wu
We can always count on the fall runways to deliver great coats and this plaid from Jason Wu is arguable my top favorite of the Fall 2021 season (thus far).
JASON WU
I think what makes this look most striking is its boldness! Jason Wu often likes to play with a neutral palette but for his Fall 2021 collection he went all in on color and I’m here for it!

Prabal Gurung
As I mentioned, three of my picks for the best NYFW looks this season come from Mr. Prabal Gurung! I must be feeling a drought of glamour from the NY fashion circuit because this collection had my heart singing.
Prabal Gurung
Moira Rose would LOVE!
Prabal Gurung
Please can someone wear this dramatic gown on a red carpet? Please can we get red carpets? #wearamask
Proenza Schouler
This look has me singing: Oh, baby, baby, does she take a piece of lime for the drink that I’mma buy her? Does she know just what she likes?
#FreeBritney
Proenza Schouler
Sometimes you just want a dress that MOVES when walking down the runway of your own life.
SUKEINA
Last fall, Sukeina was dubbed the ONE to watch in the Fashion Forward Friends podcast and this follow-up Fall 2021 collection solidifies that fact.
SUKEINA
Entirely unique.
The Row
There’s always room for an ultra soft black sweater dress.
Ulla Johnson
An overcoat so great, it could double as a dress!
Veronica Beard
The sweater vest is staging a comeback – which is a little scary tbh. But, fear not because Veronica Beard proves it doesn’t have to be a frumpy addition to your ensemble.
Zimmermann
Zimmermann’s frilliness isn’t typically my cup of tea but this embellished dress has earned its rightful place on this season’s best NYFW looks.
