Ever since I was a young girl in Junior High with braces and bangs (hello, awkward), I’ve had a love affair with following Dolce and Gabbana. The drama, the intrigue and the luxury of the brand leapt off the glossy pages of a magazine, putting a delighted twinkle in my eye. And now, years later, I’m always primed and ready to the devour images straight off the runways of Milan each season to see just where masterminds Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce will take us next.
In many ways, I think of Dolce and Gabbana as an homage to the past. From their vivid prints and lavish overcoats, to the precise detailing of everything from embroidered jackets to headband and yes, even iPhone cases – they are the master at celebrating the fine details and no detail is too small to be considered. In a fast-paced paced world, where everything must come with great haste – Dolce and Gabbana is a fairy tale that we all dream to live in.
Dreaming of a Handbag, Settling for a Foundation
As I still await my first luxe Dolce handbag or an unforgettable pair of heals, my beauty routine got a nice pick me up (and splurge) when I put a Dolce and Gabbana foundation to the test this month. While noshing on cookies over the holidays, I scrolled through rave review after rave review on Nordstrom.com and simply had to see for myself. Sure, I may not be dressed to the nines in head-to-toe Dolce, but my complexion sure enjoys the kiss of luxury.
The Dolce and Gabbana foundation I tried is their Perfect Matte Liquid foundation. In the winter months, I love a good matte finish and I picked up the shade Caramel. Doesn’t that just sound delicious? I thought so – and well, it also is the closet match to my skin-tone.

How Matte is Dolce and Gabbana’s “Perfect Matte” Foundation?
If you’re afraid of looking like you’ve layered plaster on your face, let me appease your fears. The finish is a natural matte and quite literally just like your skin, without traces of any oil or sweat. I’m amazed at how well the Dolce and Gabbana foundation works as a second skin, but it truly does. It’s perfect skin in a bottle.
How Long Does the Foundation Last?
Seriously, all day. I apply the foundation in the morning after moisturizing, then follow with concealer and set with a translucent powder. That’s all the work I need to do to have perfect skin through the full day. As someone who finds touch-ups through the day a complete drag, I am very VERY pleased with the longevity of the Dolce and Gabbana foundation. Somehow it even fights back against any oil that tries to spring up in my T-zone. Thank you, DG!
How does the Perfect Matte Foundation and Look and Feel on the Skin?
It feels like it’s you – and it looks like it’s you. For a matte finish, I find the Dolce and Gabanna foundation surprisingly light-weight. It’s so much like a second skin, that I hardly notice that I have it on and at the end of the day have to remind myself to wash my face. With some foundations, come 9 o’clock I’m basically ITCHING to wash it off. Not with this guy.
How Easy is it to Apply This Foundation?
Using the beautiful pump applicator, I squeeze two pumps onto the back of my hand and apply with a brush. The foundation consistency is very nice and blends into the skin easily. As it’s matte, I thought this might require some extra buffing but am pleased with how well it compliments my skin and applies smoothly.
Okay, but How Much Does it Cost?
$68 for an ounce. I know, that is super pricey for a foundation – but I DO think your’e paying for a lot more than just the Dolce and Gabbana name and packaging. To help with the price, take advantage of shopping rewards where you can. That’s what I did when I used one of my $20 Nordstrom Notes. (Tip: Nordstrom no longer requires you to have a credit card to earn rewards. You can enroll for a Debit card if you prefer and still earn all of the great point rewards and perks.)

- Pricey, indeed. But, that was to be expected – and compared to a Dolce & Gabbana Hair Pin at $600, yes…for just a barret..$68 seems quite reasonable.
I KNOW it’s kind of crazy to suggest you pick up a near $70 foundation, but if you’re feeling like a splurge or treating yourself to something nice – as your friend, I say you deserve it! The Perfect Matte foundation is just so good that the only negative I can find is the price. And, since it is such a strong product, doesn’t the price seem justified? Oh dear, look at me trying to reason this out. In a way, you might say I’m addicted. Can you be addicted to a beauty product? Seems highly possible at this point…
Of course, as I sit with my perfect skin, I’m still dreaming of a closet filled with Dolce and Gabbana dresses, overcoats, shoes and handbags. That is a dream that will never die!
