From the ever gorgeous Selena Gomez and Queen Lizzo to the legendary Jean Smart and Christina Ricci, let’s celebrate the Best 2022 Emmys Fashion moments.
Well! I don’t know about you but there’s no even that makes ME add things to my “watch list” quite like the Emmys.
They always serve as a great reminder of not only the terrific television programs you’ve watched throughout the year but also those you haven’t managed to get to you. So you can BET as soon as I hit *publish* on this recap of the night’s best fashions I’ll be turning to Hulu for The Dropout. Hopefully that’ll soften the blow of a Yellowjackets shutout and Bob Odenkirk*not* winning for his work on Better Call Saul (thankfully the final season is still eligible for next year’s ceremony).
At least we DID see Matthew Macfadyen take home a trophy for his chest-beating work as Tom in Succession, though. Cheers to that!
BEST 2022 EMMYS FASHION MOMENTS
Television’s biggest night was also a return to normal this year! After 2020’s Zoom broadcast to 2021’s event with very limited attendees, it was wonderful to see a room filled with guests who didn’t have to keep their distance from one another.
On a style front, I was surprised to see a much more neutral palette with only a select number of ladies going for color! Even the carpet went nude. And yet somehow the cream and black gowns of the evening didn’t come off as boring. Selena Gomez’s sleek halter, Zendaya’s Grace Kelly approach and Kerry Washington’s one-shoulder cocktail length gown with a MAJOR train all proved interesting in their own right.
The colorful looks we did get, though, were great! I loved Lizzo matching her always colorful personality to bold Giambattista Valli. Better Call Saul‘s Kim Wexler Rhea Seehorn also made perhaps the most fashion-forward choice of the evening with a Georges Chakra couture gown that has me feeling VERY excited for future possibilities from her at the Golden Globes as well as next year’s Emmys. (Because I always appreciate an alternative choice.)

ZENDAYA IN VINTAGE VALENTINO
As brand ambassador, it wasn’t surprising to see Zendaya opt for Valentino with Bulgari jewels for the red carpet but it was surprising to see her opt for such a vintage selection. I love the way she always keeps us guessing with her style. She plays quite a bit with color as well as silhouettes — but she somehow manages to get it right every single time.
SELENA GOMEZ IN CELINE
It was disappointing to see Selena not receive a nomination for Only Murders in the Building but that didn’t stop her from delivering one of the best 2022 Emmys fashion moments as she presented alongside her costars Steve Martin and Martin Short.
AMANDA SEYFRIED IN ARMANI PRIVE COUTURE
Amanda and Armani have a seriously strong winning streak together so it’s no surprise to see them land among the best 2022 Emmys fashion moments. I’m also glad Amanda got to go home a winner!
CHRISTINA RICCI IN FENDI COUTURE
My Yellowjackets withdrawal is reaching off-the-chart levels and watching the ladies arrive for the Emmys certainly didn’t help matters. Christina has always made such interesting style choices and while I don’t know I would’ve guessed she’d turn up in Kim Jones Fendi — I am glad she did! This is so sleek and cool.
JEAN SMART IN CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
Christian Siriano really was the designer of the night and it was fantastic to see him work again with Jean Smart — who is a national treasure. The tailoring of this gown is *chef’s kiss* perfection.
RHEA SEEHORN IN GEORGES CHAKRA
Perhaps one of the most unique 2022 Emmys fashion moments? Better Call Saul‘s incredibly talented Rhea Seehorn arriving in one of my FAVORITE couture gowns of the season! Absolutely stunning.
MELANIE LYNSKEY IN CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
It is seriously fantastic watching Melanie finally get the credit she’s long deserved from Yellowjackets! On the red carpet, she talked about working closely with Siriano to create a gown that made her feel her best and I’m thrilled she got the princess moment she deserves.
LAURA LINNEY IN CHRISTIAN SIRIANO
Siriano clearly was the designer of the evening and yet each of his looks is so different! The tiered neckline and waist give such interesting shape to the classic silhouette.
KAITLYN DEVER IN NAEEM KHAN
When Kaitlyn received a nomination for her gripping work in Dopesick, I was very curious what she’d opt to wear for the occasion. Red hot Naeem Khan was a choice I didn’t see coming but it works well for her. She was also one of the few ladies in color!
LIZZO IN GIAMBATTISTA VALLI
Lizzo can now add “Emmy Winner” to her long list of accolades as well as BEST DRESSED because wow.
SYDNEY SWEENEY IN OSCAR DE LA RENTA
It came as surprise to see double nominee Sydney Sweeney breakaway from her partnership with Miu Miu, but the turn to Oscar de la Renta made for one of the best 2022 Emmy fashion moments. Gorgeous detailing and a very sophisticated choice for one of the youngest nominees of the night!
KERRY WASHINGTON IN ELIE SAAB
I love how much the black tights elevate this look! They take a beautiful gown to memorable heights.
