Ready to try and tame those brows? I’m putting the new Hourglass Arch Brow gel to the test!
Eyebrows: an unruly fact of life.
Some days, I feel like my eyebrows truly have a mind of their own. But, with a little help from the new Hourglass Arch Brow gel – things seem a little bit more manageable! At least that’s the goal, anyway.
Hourglass Arch Brow Gel
When Influenster reached out, inquiring if I’d be interested in trying the new Hourglass Arch Brow gel – you know I had to say yes. I mean, brows. They’re a part of my makeup routine I sort of dread. And so, I’m always down for discovering new brow products that just might make the task at hand a little bit better.
Typically, I gravitate to pencil brow products or filling them in myself using a brown eyeshadow and an angled MAC 266 brush…so I was definitely intrigued by the double-sided fiber brow wand. One side of the brush features shorter bristles, the other side longer. It’s definitely an intriguing design and I was quite eager to put this to the test.
In total there are six shades available. Since I was picking my shade out online, I did have a little bit of trouble selecting the right shade for me. To make it easier on yourself, I definitely suggest visiting the Hourglass counter at Nordstrom or Sephora in person to get a better look at the available shades.
In the end, I opted for Auburn. After all, I have auburn hair and it seemed like a nice mix up from the Soft Brunette I usually gravitate towards for my brows. Who knows, perhaps Auburn would win me over and change my brow game altogether!
Six Shades Available:
- Auburn
- Blonde
- Warm Blonde
- Dark Brunette
- Soft Brunette
- Warm Brunette
Dual Sided Brush to Create Optimal Shape and Volume
Unlike the brow pencils I usually reach for, the Hourglass Arch Brow features a dual-sided brush. It’s a unique design that lets you alternate sides – aiming to give you the volume and shape you’re looking for. At first I was a little skeptical that the two lengths of bristles would actually make much of a difference, but the longer bristles are definitely much better for defining the shape of your brow and the shorter for defining the color.
How to Apply?
To Tame and Hold Brows in Place:
- Use the longer bristles to brush brows in the direction your hair grows, creating your desired brow shape.
To Add Volume and Color:
- Use the shorter bristles to brush brows in the opposite direction of hair growth for adding texture and color.
How Did ‘Auburn’ Match My Auburn Hair?
In the end, I’m really glad I opted for the Auburn shade! It’s quite literally a direct match for my hair and really flattering for a daytime look. For nighttime, I might go for a brunette shade to create more of a ‘bold brow’ but for everyday use – the auburn is rather lovely.
How Volumizing is the Hourglass Arch Brow?
In the end, I have to say I didn’t think the brush created that much volume.
I followed the direction to brush in the opposite direction of hair growth to create volume, but found that just left my brows looking messy and out of place – which was definitely a bummer. The wand is great for taming the brows and depositing color, but to create ‘volume’ I’m much more likely to use an angled brush or pencil to fill in my brows and create more ‘oomph’.
How Even is the Application?
I really LOVE the way the Hourglass Arch Brow applies. Over the holidays I tried a similar product from Soap and Glory and found that it deposited so heavily in my brows, almost gunky. The Hourglass product applies very evenly…and naturally. Color spreads throughout your brows in a way that looks like your actual brows and not ones you merely painted on. Win, win!
How Long Does the Product Last?
All day. Seriously. I had absolutely no trouble with this washing or flaking away.
Overall Thoughts?
Overall, I have to say I really enjoy the Hourglass Arch Brow for everyday use. Like I explained above, it does give a more ‘natural’ look to the brows. For nighttime, I might reach to something else to create a bit more drama… but for brows that actually look like your REAL brows: it’s amazing!
If you’re on the hunt for a new brow product, I do recommend giving this a try! If you’re not sure what your best shade is, I suggest visiting an Hourglass counter in-person to find the best match for your brows. Similar to foundation, it can be difficult to judge online. So, if you have easy access to Hourglass in person, that’s definitely the way to go!
