Pucker up, ladies! Our friends at Urban Decay recently launched their new Vice lipstick range. How do these new tubes of bold color measure up?
Sometimes, you just get bored with neutrals – you know?
Urban Decay certainly understand that well, and with three successful Vice eyeshadow palettes it’s not hard to see why. The Vice palettes famously break the ‘neutral’ mold, featuring bold vibrant shades for those feeling a bit more ‘daring’ in the makeup department. Oh sure, we all love a good Naked palette…but sometimes, a girl just wants to have fun. Right?
This spring, Urban Decay took fun to the next level when they released their new range of Vice lipsticks. And, after weeks of wearing nothing but glossy pinks, I just had to get my hands on one. Tired of nudes, I took to the closest Urban Decay stand to peruse the wide selection of new lipsticks, on the hunt for the perfect summer pink. While hunting I discovered the range has five finishes – matte, high-shine, metallic, satin and sheer – and a ton of color options (hello, 99!). After swatching away for a good 10 minutes, I decided on a punchy pink lipstick by the name of ‘Crush’.
Let me get straight to the point: I frickin’ LOVE this Vice lipstick.
For me, it hits all the marks of a great lipstick and I’m already itching to revisit Urban Decay to pick up more. One of my favorite lipstick formulas of all time is MAC’s Amplified range, which has brought us such classics as ‘Girl About Town’ and ‘Impassioned’. (Two lipsticks I wager no girl should be without.) Now, Urban Decay is definitely giving MAC a run for their money with the Vice lipsticks. They’re equally as smooth, bold and long-lasting — with one big bonus that MAC can’t guarantee: they’re cruelty-free.
As you may know, I made the switch from vegetarian to vegan in February and have since been dutifully selective in my beauty purchases. Since I did write a full post about this here, I won’t elaborate too much – except to say, while I love MAC…they do participate in animal testing through what I call ‘The China Factor’.
Needless to say, my hunt for a cruelty-free lipstick that’s every bit as good as my favorite MAC formula has finally come to an end thanks to Urban Decay.
What finish is the ‘Crush’ Vice Lipstick?
As mentioned, there are five finishes in the range: shimmer, metallic, high-shine, matte and satin. ‘Crush’ is a satin finish, which is full-coverage, smooth and creamy on the lips.
Can I eat and drink without my lipstick disappearing?
Yes. I’m constantly drinking water (or coffee) through the day and the Vice lipstick holds up very nicely. I’ve been wearing this for a couple of weeks now and am always impressed with its longevity, even in the high summer humidity.
How much are Urban Decay’s Vice lipsticks?
The Vice lipsticks are pretty affordable when compared to other high-end lipsticks like YSL or Chanel that run $35 a pop. At $17 per lipstick, it’s an accessible price that is also comparable to MAC lipsticks.
I like bold colors, but is it too bold for daytime?
One fear I think a lot of us have when grabbing an electric colored lipstick is that it will be really distracting and not wearable for everyday. I’ve found that Crush can absolutely be worn in the daytime, even to work. If you are concerned about it being a bit ‘too much’, I’d recommend going more neutral on the eyes for some balance.
Are the Vice lipsticks vegan friendly?
Yup! Urban Decay is a terrific brand because all of their products are vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. Yay!
