Marc Jacobs‘ Resort 2016 Collection sort of took me by surprise. I was slaving away at work when I took a brief Instagram break, and suddenly — my world shifted. Okay, I know what you’re thinking: “Stop being so melodramatic, Kelly.” And yes, I know that sounds pretty over the top but guys, my perception of Marc Jacobs has changed!
In my eyes, Marc Jacobs has been having kind of an off-kilter run on the runway these days. The stuff is great, but also kind of weird. It’s edgy, but also seems really off for the season. I mean, this IS the man who showed heavy burgundy sweaters for Spring. Sure, Marc Jacobs has been hitting it out of the park with his beauty line and accessories – but in terms of clothes, I’ve walked away feeling a bit uninspired.
(Of course, always coming as the last show of NYFW doesn’t really help matters. I’m basically limping, exhausted and completely overwhelmed by the surplus of amazing American fashion by that point. I mean, I know Marc’s looked at as the ‘grand finale’…but with NYFW being a zoo for mad talent and beautiful clothes these days, being the final show seems unfortunate as the whole world is basically on fashion overload at that point.)
Enough about NYFW though, Kelly. Sheesh.
Back to Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2016 Collection, which felt like new lifeblood for the brand! Like a fashion zinger! *zing* It was fun, modern and totally cool…everything Marc Jacobs stands for, to the 10th degree.
What’s black and white, and red all over? Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2016 collection, that’s what.
It was a cool, refined palette – decorated with reflective mirrors, floral embellishments and even a feather or two. black. It was a collection that satisfied the needs of ladies who lunch, same as it quenched the thirst of urban punksters everywhere. And then, there’s the do-rags. Marc Jacobs motions that the modern do-rag is both day and evening wear appropriate, with a super strong brow.
Don’t take just my word for it, though. To help fashion mavens everywhere, Marc Jacobs’ team shared the runway show on YouTube…so we can all lust after the movement and reflections off these clothes as they skirt down the runway.
I want to introduce a new way of reviewing collections here on Dream in Lace. In my mind, it’s already how I review collections – but I thought it would be a bit more fun if everyone joined in. From now on, let’s give collections a grade! As in, A for Awesome – F for Fail. Let’s all sit anonymously behind our computer screens getting judge-y. You know you want to… 😉
For me? I give Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2016 collection a solid A. I love the orient meets mod with a splash of rock n’roll vibe. The clothes feel ripe with energy and I can’t WAIT to see what Marc’s got in store for Spring 2016.
What’s your grade for Marc Jacobs’ Resort 2016?
