2014 MTV Video Music Awards : 10 Worst Dressed

Sometimes I like to pretend I’m 13 again and tune into the MTV Video Music Awards. It’s getting in touch with my roots. Back in the day, the VMA’s were PRIME TIME for us teens. From the 90s with favorites like Garbage, Bush, No Doubt and more…to the N’Sync/Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Eminem and more days. I bet, if you started asking me who won what in the 1998-2002ish range, I’d probably be able to run off a lot of correct answers.

Oh things have changed though! Today, the VMA’s seem like an odd mishmash of people. (Not to mention, does MTV even play music videos these days?) This year’s show had a glaring lack of musicians! Definitely, musicians were on the shortlist and to fill the empty seats, along came in the Hollywood tag-a-longs (aka Kardashians and young actresses with things to promote).

Happy Monday dreamers!

Did you watch the MTV Video Music Awards last night? Because I did – and oh is there stuff to talk about. Fortunately (or unfortunately) Dream in Lace is not a gossip site – so I can’t quite rag on about the Beyonce performance and how beautiful it was, but also how extremely awkward it was at the same time given all the family drama we’ve been reading about in her world. But what we can talk about is how GREAT Beyonce looked, and we shall – plus nine other names that also looked great. So, with no more fuss let’s just get into it.

Browsing Sephora.com in the middle of the night is a very dangerous thing. Especially when you’ve spent the bulk of the summer wearing little to no makeup and are just itching to get into fall beauty products! Low and behold, I fell in love at first sight with the Smashbox Cherry Smoke Eye Shadow Palette. It just happens that my daily and nightly moisturizers are limping by on their last legs, so I took the opportunity as a sign from the gods to take a trip to Sephora.

But the buggers didn’t have it! *gasp*

Oh the nerve of Sephora to only have it available online at this time. I was crushed! Heartbroken! Distraught! Obviously I had no other option than to drown my sadness by perusing items that they actually did have in-stock. AKA: the Givenchy counter.

Booktubeathon Day 3/4 Update + We Were Liars Review

Given that I’m writing this while perched at Honda at 6:30 pm…with every intention of going back to work after my oil change: you could say that things on Day 4 of the Booktubeathon haven’t been exactly productive. (At least not in the reading scope of things.) I’m sort of ashamed to think of just how low my reading is today…

Pretty Little Liars Fashion Recap : (Episode 5×03)

I nearly thought I wouldn’t get this week’s Pretty Little Liars Fashion Recap post up on-time. But as it turns out, nothing will hold me back from a Mona fashion take down! No one, and I mean no one, on this show has more pizazz than Mona! Not even Ali can compete…not to mention this week she was kind of a downer our Ali. Guess life isn’t as fun when you’re not the one playing the games, huh?

Anywho! We also had Mr. Fitz back in the action…cane and all. I always appreciate an Ezra Fitz moment, but somehow a bit of scruff really does the man good. Are you an Aria and Ezra fan? Because I am! I think they’re the cutest ever! Fortunately I enjoy their angst just as much as I enjoy their fluff. So I’m happy to ride the Ezria train through the fallout of his secret novel.

But, Ezra aside…it’s really about the fashion here so let’s get right into!

This week’s episode opens with funeral attire. Of the girls, I’d say Spencer’s is my favorite look.

Ali decides to wear a dress of her mother’s. And, it looks like…well, something her mother would wear. Nuff said!

I love when we get to see all the girls in the same frame. It clearly defines their style. Such as Spencer is uber preppy. And Hanna is okay with giant tassels hanging from around her neck.

I’m very disappointed we didn’t get to see this full outfit. It appears to be a bejeweled crop top paired with a white skater-skirt and gold belt-chain. Cute!

Emily’s found another swimmer recruit. Anyone else blank out when the swim team’s around?

Not only did we get an Ezra/Aria scene…we got Aria in maybe one of her cutest ensembles ever. I’m glad the stylist of the show knew to really bring it for an Ezria scene. #EzriaForever

Then, when Ezra’s away Aria returns to her usual skull and ugly t-shirt roots.

In a flashback we see when Hanna and Mona team up and takeover the school after a makeover. I find it interesting Hanna going Western and Mona going Spanish made them it girls. It looks like they’re dressed for Halloween to me more than they are for social domination.

Hanna in modern day should take a lesson from her past self. While this outfit isn’t Western…it is very poor fitting and 100% unflattering.

Mona being perfect Mona. Never misses a beat or lets her lipstick go untouched.

I’m a much bigger fan of this outfit from the waist up like in the school shot. When you see the skirt with this it weighs it down. She should’ve paired this with some great jeans.

I love how bejeweled out Mona is these days. Clearly I’m not the only one obsessed with blinged-out necklines.

And let’s end on a high note. Ezra with some scruff. Scruffy Ezra for the win!

Well, in a shocking turn of events…I have to give my overall vote for Best Dressed this week to Miss Aria Montgomery. She really looked poised and precious standing it Ezra’s apartment. I wish they’d style her that way better. It’s still eclectic like our girl Aria, but somehow reigned in with polish. When they have her roaming around with skulls and feathers all the time I’m mostly left confused. Good work Aria! Nicely played.

Yay or Nay Monday : LOreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder

When L’Oreal released the Magic Nude Liquid Powder, I was interested in the idea but never in trying it. But as summer and humidity rise around me, I started to look at this from another angle while shopping around CVS. Could this be the ideal summer product? A light coverage ala a tinted moisturizer but with stay-matte properties? I couldn’t wait to find out!

And to my surprise, my wish came true. This is absolutely everything I wanted from it. Would I recommend this as a foundation? No. Would I use this outside of summer? Probably not. Is this the summer dream product all of you need to get asap? Yes! (Or at least if you have minimal coverage needs.)

Coverage
The coverage is minimal-to-light. As in, this barely does anything to conceal anything outside of some minimal redness/discoloration. So if you have problematic skin and need some coverage, this is definitely not for you. If you’re like me, and have a clear complexion (thank you Clarisonic!) with just some hormonal redness around your nose, this is perfect. I will say, in it’s favor this does build really nicely. I think if you did have a blemish or two you could build that area up without much trouble. :

Texture
The consistency of this product is like water. Truly. I would highly recommend pouring this into the palm of your hand, as you would a hair product, to apply. This quickly turns from a runny liquid to a powder when applied…and yet remains completely light and soft on your skin. It’s a very pleasant feeling, if I must say 😉

Longevity (In High Humidity Conditions)
I have put this product through the ringer. As in, I have worn this all day outdoors, in high humidity, running around outside, with zero touch ups and when I look in the mirror at the end of the day I don’t feel like running away in horror. In fact, my skin not only looks ‘good’…it looks really good! Magic Nude can stand up against humidity like a prize fighter. #Fact

Cost
As a drugstore foundation, this does ring in at the higher end of the price spectrum. But, even then it’s a very reasonable item. I would recommend picking this up on sale, with a coupon, with a reward value…or all of the above. $2 off L’Oreal foundation coupons are usually readily available 😉

Overall
Huge thumbs up to this as a light-weight, stay-matte formula for summer. Which honestly, isn’t that what we all want? From me, this gets a huge YAY!
