But let’s start with the positive: I FINISHED ANOTHER BOOK! (Yesterday)
That’s right. My day 3 was exceedingly more successful and I managed to both start and finish We Were Liars in one sitting. Soooo what if it’s only 228 pages, many of which are only a few stanzas of words! Point is, I made a point to finish it in one day and I did. It was very close…I literally finished at 11:57pm, inching in on day 3 by a hair. But I did it.
If you’re unfamiliar with We Were Liars, let me just say that it’s at heart a mystery but with such lyrical and dreamy surroundings that you sort of forget that you’re supposed to be hunting for clues. In fact, when presented with clues I thought to myself, “Oh, that was a clue there. X and y =w…but who cares?” Who cares? Yes. I literally didn’t care what the answer was because I was so drawn into this surreal storytelling and tone. Then, when the answer is presented I was only sad that it meant the end.
This book left me wanting more. So much more! E. Lockhart could’ve had me reading for at least another 2-300 pages. The story takes place on a private island, where a group of cousins spend their summers together. It reminded me of all my summers growing up on the shores of Lake Michigan with my cousins. Everything captured the essence of youth so perfectly it felt like I was literally reading a wrinkle in time. (Minus the dark family secret.) Beautiful story and seriously the ULTIMATE summer read.
MY TOTALS: 3 books down and 4 challenges completed. I read a red book, a book with pictures, a book someone else recommended to me and a book-to-movie adapted novel.
I still have 3 days to try and pullout some miraculous accomplishments! I can do it! *I think* Working full time and trying to consume mass books is hard! If I can finish off one more book I’ll be proud of myself. 4 books in a week is an accomplishment!
