Hello, there! I hope you’re doing well and just as excited about these warmer days we find ourselves as I am.
Yes, I do find myself cranking up the AC the very moment I get in my car to blast off the humidity but it’s so wonderful not have to worry about piling on a million layers before stepping outside.
(Of course you do still need an umbrella in case of the odd summer storm. That’s a fact I was reminded earlier last week whilst running through torrential downpour to my car.)
It’s not a subject I like to talk much about but if you caught the post where I shared my Spring 2022 Makeup favorites you’ll know that I have an extended medical leave kicking in at the end of June as I have yet another spinal fusion. This one will be my sixth which is a total downer, but there’s solace (somewhat at least) in knowing just what to expect in the weeks ahead as I’ve been there before! A huge part of spinal surgery recovery is getting up, taking walks and maintaining strength. But another big part is allowing your body the time it needs to heal!
So obviously that creates a bit more downtime for reading. And I mean READING! I’ve been working around the clock on audiobooks this year, whizzing through so many memoirs and motivational reads — but I haven’t actually sat and made my way through a physical book in quite some time. But the idea of laying back and getting fully lost in the pages of an actual book is such a comforting thought at the moment.
Celebrate the new season and mental getaways with me and review the books on my summer 2022 reading list below!
Summer 2022 Reading List
In late 1960s LA, Daisy spends her time sneaking into nightclubs on the Sunset Strip, sleeping with rock stars and dreaming of taking her own place in center stage. Luck eventually comes calling as a sudden spot opens for a singer to front a rising band called The Six as they’re about to embark on their first tour. When a producer realizes the key to success is putting Daisy and the band’s leader Billy Dunne together — what happens next will become the stuff of legend!
No, this isn’t a new release but its a book that’s been on my TBR for quite some time. With a forthcoming television series in the works, it seems like the perfect addition to my summer 2022 reading list!
Perhaps it’s a longing for the underhanded Roy family drama during Succession‘s hiatus or my own experiences with pain, but Empire of Pain has been a book I’ve been ITCHING to read and I’m excited to finally get to it!
The Sackler name is a famous one you’ll find on the walls of Harvard, the Met, the Louvre and other famous institutions. But the source of the family fortune was always kept famously vague — that is until it was revealed that the Sackler family is behind the making and misleading marketing of OxyContin.
This title promises to make it easier to do what matters most — which obviously sounds wonderful! In the weeks ahead, I told myself I wanted to give a rest on the memoirs and motivational books that filled my headspace the first half of the year but I had to leave room on my summer 2022 reading list for this one! Effortless sets out to teach you how to find enjoyment while simplifying processes and better maintaining and managing the relationships in your life.
“Not everything hard in life can be made easy. But we can make it easier to do more of what matters most!”
Persephone Frasure hasn’t returned home since she made the biggest mistake of her life nearly a decade ago. But a call brings her racing back to Barry’s Bay where she’s once again in the orbit of Sam Florek, the man she never thought she’d have to live without. They’d been inseparable with an undeniable connection, but until she confronts the choices she made that drove them apart — they’ll never be able to know if there love is bigger than the big mistakes of their past.
This one sounds a bit like One Day – which I loved – and a truly perfect addition to my summer 2022 reading list as the book takes place across six summers of the past and one weekend in the present.
One of my favorite summer reads of all time is E. Lockhart’s We Were Liars. The story and the atmosphere are simply perfect for a summer read so obviously news of a prequel was music to my ears!
Return to the private island off the coast of Massachusetts resides — and lies — of the summer. There you’ll find a fiery, addicted heiress. An irresistible, unpredictable boy. And a summer of unforgivable betrayal and terrible mistakes.
Coming on August 23, Haven is definitely the most anticipated book on my Summer 2022 reading list as it comes from Emma Donoghue whose writing captured my heard while reading her bestseller Room.
Tackling very different subject matter, Haven follows three men in seventh-century Ireland who are seeking a location for a monastery. As they drift into the Atlantic, they discover an impossibly steep and bare island that’s inhabited by tens of thousands of birds. They claim the land for God and from there their survival story begins!
Casey Fletcher is a recently widowed actress fleeing from bad press to the tranquility of her family’s lake house in Vermont. There, she finds herself captivated by the glamorous couple who live in the house across the lake. When she saves Katherine, a gorgeous former model, from drowning the two forge a friendship that shows glimpses of cracks in the marriage Casey had thought to be so perfect.
When Katherine suddenly disappears, Casey becomes consumed with finding out what happened to her. Along the way she uncovers dark truths on how looks can be very, very deceiving.
Sager might not be the most prolific writer but if there’s one thing I love — it’s a summer mystery. This addition to my summer 2022 reading list will be perfect during a stormy summer day.
Dubbed a coming-of-age thriller, The Wild One follows Amanda Brooks — a native New Yorker who’s living in Tribeca while in graduate school and madly in love with her boyfriend. But things aren’t as perfect as they appear.
A dark secret lurks beneath the surface dating back to Amanda’s days at Camp Catalpa when a man mysteriously died in the woods. She nor her fellow campers Catherine and Meg have spoken about what happened that day — until Amanda has a slip of tongue. From there, the truth threatens to implode her perfectly controlled life.
National treasure Stanley Tucci was raised in an Italian American family that dined every night together. It’s from his family’s kitchen table that his love of food begun — a love that has led him to release both The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table. He’s now inviting us for a closer look, sharing the stories behind his recipes. Taste is a reflection on the intersection between food and life — filled with anecdotes from his childhood in Westchester, New York to his film career.
In addition to the delightful wit of Tucci, we can also explore a topic together I think everyone loves: food!
