Indulge yourself in the Best NYFW Spring 2022 looks as in-person events returned!
Well, fashionistas! Life may not be completely back to normal but at this stage we can rejoice about one thing: New York Fashion Week is back!
After a year and half without traditional in-person fashion shows, the CFDA developed a plan that made hosting guests possible as designers unveil their Spring 2022 collections. To ensure safety, all of those participating in New York Fashion Week this season were required to show proof of vaccination and wore masks indoors.
Seeing the schedule returning to its (mostly) normal state signaled major progress — and not just on the COVID front.
Altuzarra, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler were back in NYC after showing at Paris Fashion Week instead for several seasons. We also saw Italian imports! Dundas and Moschino opted to debut new designs in Big Apple instead of Milan. And thanks to the Black in Fashion Council, 13 emerging talents made their debut on the calendar.
BEST NYFW Spring 2022 Looks
As we celebrate the revival of New York Fashion Week, we saw many major mainstays that were missing on the digital schedules we saw emerge from Sept. 2020 and Feb. 2021 presentations. Classics like Carolina Herrera and Michael Kors made their return to the schedule as well as names Prabal Gurung and Jonathan Simkhai.
Jeremy Scott and Peter Dundas were also players this season ahead of their participation in the 2021 Met Gala. Scott’s collection always bring kitschy fun to the runway and this season he showed a nursery-rhyme-inspired collection that concluded with Gigi Hadid walking the finale with a baby bottle in her mouth. So, there’s that!
It certainly was great to see the catwalk get some major miles in during six pretty full days of fashion! There we
So, my fellow fashionistas. Feast your eyes on the best NYFW Spring 2022 looks below and be sure to let me know if you have any favorites.
Collina Strada
We must kick off the best NYFW Spring 2022 looks with Collina Strada as it was she who kicked off the festivities from atop Brooklyn Grange in Sunset Park! In the rooftop garden, she unveiled an energetic, flower-power collection that’s perfect for festival season. So you can start planning your future Coachella looks, now!
Altuzarra
Making their return to New York Fashion Week was Altuzarra with their signature cool-girl style on center stage! And this maxi dress really is one to love.
Brandon Maxwell
Pleated chiffon maxi dress with swirls of pink and orange hues? Yes, please!
Carolina Herrera
Wes Gordon continues his winning streak as Carolina Herrera’s successor and his latest collection was serving look after look.
This tiered gown in particular is one I was expecting we’d see pop up at the MET Gala. I’m glad I was wrong on that count because it deserves a longer shelf-life of appreciation. It remains to be seen what major red carpet this tulle confection will land on, but whenever or wherever it does — it’s sure to be a memorable moment.
Cinq a Sept
Part shift dress, part rain slicker. Adorably chic and functional in spring showers? Winning!
COACH
Creative Director Stuart Vevers continues to play in the COACH archives, reinventing classics for the generation. The Spring 2022 collection is filled with nostalgia, but a look I especially love is this oversized shift dress inspired by Bonnie Cashin’s pragmatic approach in the brand’s early days.
Gabriela Hearst
As a big fan of knitwear and very relaxed fit garments, this Gabriela Hearst maxi dress stands out as decidedly much more tailored. It’s probably the one out of all the best NYFW Spring 2022 looks here today that surprised me the most. The fitted, cutout bodice shows a newer direction I hope we see more of from Gabriela.
Jason Wu Collection
Last year at this time, Jason Wu shared his spring collection in a rooftop garden above Spring Studios. To see the garden brought INDOORS this year is a joyous measure of the progress we’ve made navigating a pandemic over the last twelve months.
Outstanding scenery aside, Wu really leaned into some really fantastic evening looks for this SS22 collection and this yellow gown is a delight!
Jonathan Simkhai
This pantsuit will fair well on those blazing New York summer days when you want to look professional but also want to be able to breathe.
Maryam Nassir Zadeh
There’s always room for a slinky, slip dress in your wardrobe – especially one as cool as this!
Michael Kors Collection
This is basically a gimme as we’re basically all in love with shiny, silver things – right?
Moschino
Jeremy Scott’s Moschino usually makes an appearance on the best looks from Milan, so it’s a lot of fun to include him among the best NYFW Spring 2022 looks. And while Moschino’s show in Bryant Park may have been met with rain, that didn’t get in the way of a fabulously fun collection that’s lady-who-lunches meets Nursery Rhymes.
Peter Do
Alexa? Play Champagne Supernova.
Prabal Gurung
Let’s just say if a mermaid was a dress, this would be it!
Proenza Schouler
There’s no way Proenza Schouler could send a yellow fringe dress down the runway and for it to NOT be one of the best NYFW Spring 2022 looks.
Thom Browne
From the moment I saw Thom Browne’s name on the NYFW schedule, I knew he would deliver some of the best NYFW Spring 2022 looks and he 100% delivered. Browne’s presence has been perhaps missed most of all since he jumped over to Paris and it was great to see him back in the Big Apple. He ever artistic and avant garde approach has served us with some of the most memorable runway show experiences.
The entire SS 22 Thom Browne collection is well worth checking out but this the craftsmanship of this floral cape is truly out of this world!
Tom Ford
As the pandemic has rolled on, we’ve seen Tom Ford really embrace energetic colors and patterns. Attire for fully embracing life again! Here’s hoping we’re able to next summer.
Tory Burch
Of course Tory Burch’s parade on Mercer Street is included in this season’s Best NYFW Spring 2022 looks. There were many great ones to choose from but these cool trousers paired with a shapely blouse are summer-girl-in-the-city approved.
Ulla Johnson
What better place than the Brooklyn Botanic Garden to unveil a spring collection? After using the garden as a personal oasis during these difficult times, Ulla Johnson knew it was the perfect place for sharing her latest inspirations.
