Celebrating Kamala Harris in making history as America’s first Madam Vice President-Elect!
Greetings to my fellow Dreamers! From its inception, DreaminLace has been dedicated to celebrating the ambition, beauty and style of the modern woman as she passionately pursues her dreams. So it would simply be an oversight to not shout from the rooftops how tremendous this moment is – seeing Kamala Harris break through the glass ceiling as America’s FIRST Madam Vice President-Elect!!
Currently, Kamala Harris represents California as the second black female and first South-Asian senator. But on January 20, 2021, Kamala will be sworn into her new role as Madam Vice President and my heart is filled joy!! This historical moment is a measure of great progress and sure to inspire females of all ages and backgrounds across America who have never seen a female hold a national office. While studying American history books and watching our national leaders through the years, they’ve always been male — till now.
The reality is, female ambition in the United States and all around the world continues to be challenged. I personally have been met with many looks of disapproval and been told “No” more times than I can count in pursuing my dreams. That’s something I share in common with Kamala. That’s something ALL women share in common with each other. So while it’s 2020 and we like to believe we are in a modern time, women’s rights are a relatively new concept on the timeline of civilization and electing Kamala Harris as American’s first Madam Vice President-Elect is a triumphant moment and one we all hope to see continue again and again.
Kamala Harris Madam Vice President-Elect Victory Speech
Dressed in a suffragette white Caroline Herrera pantsuit by Wes Gordon, Kamala Harris took to a stage in Wilmington, Delaware on November 7th to accept the honor being America’s first Madam Vice President-Elect with women around the world cheering her on.
This is a victory for Kamala, but it’s also a victory for all women! Delivering an inspiring speech at the podium, Kamala honored her mother — an immigrant who came to America in homes of finding a brighter future. She also acknowledged the generations of women before her who paved the way to this historic moment.
“I’m thinking about the generations of women — Black women, Asian, White, Latina, Native American women who throughout our nation’s history have paved the way for this moment tonight. Women who fought and sacrificed so much for equality, liberty and justice for all, including the Black women, who are often, too often overlooked, but so often prove that they are the backbone of our democracy. All the women who worked to secure and protect the right to vote for over a century: 100 years ago with the 19th Amendment, 55 years ago with the Voting Rights Act and now, in 2020, with a new generation of women in our country who cast their ballots and continued the fight for their fundamental right to vote and be heard.
Tonight, I reflect on their struggle, their determination and the strength of their vision — to see what can be, unburdened by what has been. And I stand on their shoulders.”
But while I may be the first woman in this office, I will not be the last, because every little girl watching tonight sees that this is a country of possibilities.”
In addition to addressing female listeners, Madam Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris also spoke to everyone on what the outcome of this election means about in regards to following dreams and staying true to your beliefs.
“And to the children of our country, regardless of your gender, our country has sent you a clear message:
Dream with ambition. Lead with conviction. And, see yourselves in a way that others may not – simply because they’ve never seen it before. But know, that we will applaud you every step of the way.”
So, DreaminLace readers — today we celebrate Kamala Harris as America’s first Madam Vice President-Elect. This is without a doubt a milestone moment and one I hope we can continue celebrating all the way up the point where a female holding a position of power is the NORM — not the exception!!
