Early spring style ideas to put a little spring in your step – even when there are still chilly temperatures and even snow in the forecast.
Well dreamers, it’s officially spring! (Even it if doesn’t feel like it.)
Currently, I’m sat watching snow falling outside my window…which kind of puts a damper on my urge to stow away all my chunky winter sweaters and coats while twirling around in spring florals and sandals in a field of daisies. I can hear Mother Nature right now, “Hold your horses Kelly. Not just yet!”
Every year I feel like I fall into the same trap of longing for spring so much that I end up freezing my arse off because I put away all my winter clothes too soon. Not this year, though. Nope! This year I’m getting wiser.
Early Spring Style : What to Wear?
So, what exactly should you wear when you’re ready to embrace spring but it’s still gosh darn cold outside? It’s a style predicament we all seem to be facing this year as Nor’easter after nor’easter pounds the East coast and our weathermen just can’t seem to stop mentioning snow and freezing rain.
Fear not, there are plenty of ways to add a splash of spring to your look…while you wait to officially ditch your winter wear for the year.
Early Spring Style Ideas!
Light Weight Sweaters
Okay, it might not yet be time to stow away ALL of our winter sweaters – but we can at least opt for light weight pieces as we inch towards the warmer days ahead. I’m also a big fan of stripes – particularly navy and white. What can I say? I guess I’m a nautical girl at heart. (Or at least a ‘wannabe’.) It’s finally time to ditch dressing for warmth, instead, we can dress to look good! In fact, a friend of mine went to a wedding recently wearing a rental dress from Style Theory. She looked so good and stylish. The best part was she got a luxurious dress for the event much cheaper because it was just a rental. It also exuded an amazing Spring vibe!
Colorful and Floral Bags for Spring
For early spring style looks, you can start introducing pastels and florals to your wardrobe with your handbag. Pair your winter wear with a pastel or floral purse to add a little ‘spring’ in your step.
Layer Spring Dresses Over Turtlenecks
The forecast may be chilly, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start wearing your favorite spring dresses. Try layer them over turtlenecks to give you added warmth while still enjoying your spring florals. I’m obsessed with J.Crew’s tissue turtlenecks and have them in just about every color and stripe you can think of. They’re perfect for layering!
Boots with Skirts (and Tights)
Turns out, my favorite fall combo is perfect for early spring style as well. Get more use out of your winter boots by pairing them with skirts and colorful tights. The good news? Early spring is the perfect time to stock up on tights because they’re all on *mega sale* as retailers clear out inventory for summer!
Hats are Your Friend
When it’s chilly out, there’s nothing better than a great hat to pull together your outfit while keeping you nice and toasty. I’m sporting a cream wool hat my mom picked up for me on a trip to LA and tit’s the perfect way to have a little fun with my look amidst the cold.
Oh gosh. It would be so great to kick winter weather to curb for good right now. But, at the very least we can all have a little bit of fun adding some springy pieces into our wardrobes during these chilly days of March.
Are you in the shopping mood? For your viewing pleasure, I rounded up a selection of early spring style pieces I think are pretty gosh darn fabulous. Starting with a millennial pink hat featuring a velvet bow! I mean, how cute right?
