I’m freezing cold and constantly needing to moisturize. Yup! It must be winter. Let’s chat about our winter skincare favorites. What goods actually have the goods to outlast arctic conditions.
Welcome to winter skincare week at Dream in Lace!
I don’t know about you, but here in the Midwest…winter held off for a little while, but then came charging with a vengeance. My skin was zapped dry around the first week of January and has been fighting an uphill battle ever since. Fortunately, I am equipped and diligently fight at keeping my skin replenished and thriving – even when the atmosphere wants to suck the life out of it.
I took to Twitter recently asking, just what are your skincare favorites in the winter time? What products help you float by without dreaded dry and itchy skin? Gosh, and don’t even get me started on the misery of painful chapped lips…
Today, I wanted to give you a peek inside my current skincare arsenal, that is armed with both old and new favorite winter skincare essentials to help combat the dreaded side effects of winter:
Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask (here)
This overnight mask is one that beauty lovers rave on and on about, and with good reason. Aside from really quenching your skin’s thirst overnight, it also has a refreshing citrus scent that is very much welcomed in the dark and dreary days of winter. Think of it like a two-for-one: a boost for your skin and your mood all in one step!
Borghese Protective Moisturizer* (here)
I’m usually a fan of using separate daytime and nighttime moisturizers, simply because I want to avoid my daily makeup turning into a messy grease spill. While lovely, overnight moisturizers tend to be thick and borderline greasy to really satisfy your skin overnight. Daytime moisturizers are lighter for easier makeup application, but typically don’t pack enough power to double as a nighttime skincare product. It’s quite frankly – it’s a skincare conundrum. (Yes, I said conundrum. Did you see that coming? I didn’t.) Enter Borghese and their lightweight, yet surprisingly thick moisturizer that will easily keep dry skin at bay with morning and evening use. Say, what? A one-stop moisturizer? Sold! I love that this gives the moisture I love from my favorite nighttime creams, without leaving greasy residue atop my skin. Truly a perfect product.
NKD SKN Gradual Glow Daily Tan* (here)
It’s no secret, with winter comes pale af skin. As it turns out though, I am a bit lazy to maintain a complete faux tan in the off-season. The solution? This foolproof tanner from NKD SKN that doubles as a tanner and body moisturizer. Simply apply to freshly exfoliated skin and within 12 hours you will be working a natural glow. Done!
Laura Mercier Hand Creams (here)
I have been seriously loving this gift-set of Laura Mercier’s hand creams. And let me tell you, if you have not yet tried any of the hand and body lotions from Laura Mercier – you are REALLY missing out. Nothing tops these. Nothing. My favorite is the Almond Coconut Milk, but the Creme Brulee is rather tasty as well. These mini-versions are perfect for stashing in your purse and keeping in your top desk drawer. In other words, you won’t find me without it easily in reach. No. Way.
Philosophy Made Simple Mask (here)
I branched out from the beloved microdelivery peel kit to this wonderful and quick mask. It has the same affect on my skin as the famous microdelivery peel, but is a more streamlined one-stop process and has this rejuvenating warmth to it as it breathes new life into your complexion. It also doesn’t suck moisture out of your skin like its clay mask counterparts. Great for the winter season!
Philosophy Microdelivery Exfoliant Wash (here)
Remember when I mentioned ‘exfoliated skin’ before applying NKD SKN’s gradual self tanner? Meet my new exfoliating friend! This was including in the Cyber Monday tote gift-with-purchase (which is incredible every year, check it out) and I’ve been loving it to prime my skin for applying a little faux glow. You might think to yourself, do I really need a fancy exfoliating wash? With the right loofah, maybe not…but it sure is nice to have one!
Philosophy Cinnamon Buns Body Wash (here)
Winter tradition I simply can’t escape. This stuff is goals. Major goals. Too bad I can’t eat it…
Borghese Mud Mask (here)
For that *ahem* special time when you might have a blemish or two, I do turn to Borghese’s mud mask. The selling factor to me is that it has a slight burning affect when its applied, penetrating deep into the skin. I usually keep this on for a solid 20-30 minutes while flipping through a magazine or chuckling through the latest The Bachelor episode. The effects are immediate. Any blemish will decrease in size and in swelling and redness. The mask definitely puts you on the quick path to recovery!
EOS Sweet Mint Lip Balm (here)
Mint chocolate chip is my favorite ice cream and this lip balm feels like eating a scoop or two. It took me a while to jump on the EOS balm bandwagon, but as it turns out…the hype is well-deserved. I apply this every night before bed and have held off chapped lips quite nicely!
Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum (here)
Excuse my lapse in judgment, but I forgot to grab my Advanced Overnight Repair serum before photographing. (Quite foolish, considering I have a standing appointment with this guy every other night at 10 pm.) Come January, I up my serum game from a couple times a week to every other night – and every night in extreme cold. (You know, when the thermometer dips down to negative degrees.) Estee Lauder face creams haven’t done much to impress me, but I am a solid believer in this serum’s magic. It seems to be the best defense my skin has, truly.
And now, I’m dying to hear what winter skincare products are essential to you in surviving the dog days of winter. I think we can all agree, January and February are the least glamorous months of the year. Whoever finds anything cute about constant gray skies and practically seizing from the arctic temperatures outside, they’re lying. Being cold is miserable…and it can make your skin feel miserable too.
Thankfully, the skincare gods can save us. Let me know what your skincare regimen looks like and if you’d like to know more about these wonderful products! One thing I’ve decided to let go of this year is the idea of ‘monthly favorites’. I found they’re not all that helpful because they force me to constantly be on the hunt, rather than actually enjoying the products I’m using. So, instead – I plan to do more seasonal favorite roundups like this post. Let me know, how do you like that idea?

I love Origin’s Intensive Overnight Mask. I was skeptical at first, but it really does make your skin feel soft, hydrated and plump. However, I cannot stand the scent, but since it does great things for my skin, I put up with it.

I know what you mean about being an albino. In the winter, I don’t like a heavy faux tan…but a bit of glow always makes me feel better about myself. – xo
