Testing out the new Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes Mascara! Is it the volumizer your lashes have been waiting for?

To start, I wanna express how much I’ve come to really love Selena Gomez over the course of the last year.

That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy her before, but I wasn’t too familiar with her work. I was out of my Disney Channel viewing days when she emerged on the scene and while I listened to her music on occasion — I really didn’t know too much about her beyond the headlines.

What I did know was how strongly her fanbase adores her and I now fully see why they cherish her so much.

After two seasons of watching Selena learn to cook in a pandemic on HBO Max, openly sharing her beauty routine on Instagram and laughing with us all in Tiktok videos – I now consider myself a proud member of the Selena Gomez fanbase. Her endearing relatability and humble nature are just part of her charm. She’s also a powerful advocate for equality, mental health and the journey to loving yourself. She uses her platform to bring influential progressives like Stacey Abrahams as well as marginalized voices to her younger audience.

It didn’t take long before naysayers who were skeptic that the world needed another celebrity-backed cosmetic line were silenced. Because nothing quiets your critics down quite like quality products and quality products Rare Beauty delivered!

The foundation is phenomenal, the blush an Allure ‘Best of Beauty’ winner and whipped liquid lipsticks that are impossibly lightweight.

And considering testing a new mascara is one of my favorite things in life – there was no resisting picking this up for a review. The price tag was also immediately impressive at $20 a pop. Definitely more affordable than other beloved mascaras in my collection.

Figure-8 Shaped Brush

The Rare Beauty Perfect Stokes mascara has a lovely wand, with a brush shaped like a figure-8 for getting in between your lashes and building volume. There’s also slotted space between each bundle of bristles that help in creating shape but also avoiding clumping!

Tubing Mascara

As we know, not all mascaras are created equal – nor are they all “tubing” mascaras. But very fortunately, the Perfect Strokes formula is!

What the heck does this mean? Well, when applied, the Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes mascara uses polymers to wrap each lash in a “tube”. This method is especially great for creating a super even coating. Other benefits to tube mascaras, include:

Not Too Wet. Not Too Dry.

Other than the price, another thing I immediately loved upon first application is that the Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes mascara has a perfect middle of the road formula – that’s not too wet and not too try. I often find mascaras get better over the time as the formula sits a bit but this one was really perfect from day one.

Its semi-wet formula helps create dramatic volume and the semi-matteness of the formula prevents clumping as well as holds your lashes’ curl all day long.

Lifts and Curls the Lashes

The shape of Rare Beauty’s Perfect Strokes mascara wand combined with its tube-style formula work well together to curl your lashes and create major lift. Your lashes will literally reach for the sky!

Long-Lasting Formula That Does Not Smudge

On a makeup front, there’s nothing more ugh-worthy than catching a glimpse of yourself in the mirror only to find your mascara has found its way from your eyes to your face. Be it through smudges or flakes, it’s not a good look and one I always hope to avoid when testing different mascaras.

Fortunately the Rare Beauty Perfect Strokes mascara did not cause me any issues. To ensure it really was a long-lasting product, I put the mascara through intense testing with heavy workouts at the gym, time outdoors in sweltering heat and humidity – and even crying while rewatching Forrest Gump (a film that somehow always moves me to tears no matter how many times I’ve seen it.) No matter what shenanigans I was putting the Rare Beauty mascara through, it managed to come out the other side beautifully!

Sensitive Eyes and Contact Lenses-Approved

Before releasing the Perfect Strokes mascara, the Rare Beauty team had the product fully tested by ophthalmologists to ensure its suitable for use with contact lenses. It’s also formulated without parabens and other irritants, making it a great option for those with sensitive eyes.

If you’re on the hunt for a new mascara, I really think Rare Beauty’s Perfect Strokes is one you’ll enjoy. The product is super easy to apply, makes a dramatic improvement to the appearance of lashes, does not smudge and lasts all day long.

There’s really not much this mascara can’t do and at $20, it’s more moderately priced than alternative formulas on the market. I also really love that it’s fully vegan and cruelty-free!
