Gone are the brilliant face masks of their Fall 2013 Collection and in are mod and militant looks with an electrifying red, white, black and blue palette at Alexander McQueen for Spring/Summer 2014. The fashion house we’ve all come to expect the unknown from, with a little bit of theatrics, took center stage at Paris Fashion Week Tuesday with a new line that rocks the socks off your eyes. If you thought you’ve seen cutting edge fashion before, they dare you to look again. It’s daring, contemporary, and razor-blade sharp.
So, if you’re a girl who likes to bare your pilates body and turn a few heads (queue Miley Cyrus here), Alexander McQueen is right up your alley this season. Gold cuffs, double leather belts, strapping halters, triple thick chockers, and helmets accessories this collection with chunky and strapping platform sandels for your feet. It’s an eclectic array of military bondage and pairs perfectly with the pieces that combine softer fabrics with harsh black leather.
There are also feathers. Who would’ve thought bondage and leathers would go together but at Alexander McQueen they’re cut from the same cloth. Floor length gowns with large feathered sections mix up the collection and introduce an all together new silhouette. I do think they seem a little uncomfortable for your arms though 😉
All in all, I stand and salute this collection for its edginess. It really goes there. And if there’s anything you could say about Alexander McQueen, it’s that they never go half way. Full steam ahead guys!
Valentino, when the name of the mega famous fashion house comes to mind, I instantly think of refined elegance. So to see the brand take their elegance to the wow-degree for their Spring/Summer 2014 Collection was a fun twist! Things are usually kept minimal with feminine highlights such as lace trim or collars. Mesh and bold prints? A little far out there for Valentino and I’m loving that they’re experimenting with a new direction while still staying to their clean silhouettes!
Paris Fashion Week has been so amazing this season, with collection after collection topping each other and Valentino coming into the mix makes me feel even more confused of what my favorite collection is from this round. It’s like a hybrid collection of Valentino and another favorite designer of mine: Dolce and Gabbana. There are definitely some very DG-esque elements in this collection such as embroidered lace, headpieces, and an ornate essence. That said, the collection is also very Bohemian and Southwestern. Several of the designs have a Native feel to them including fringed overcoats.
All that said, this collection is very much a groundbreaking line for Valentino and possibly the dawn of a new era for the brand? I have to say I’m liking this change in them. No matter what Valentino does it will always celebrate the female form with a gorgeous, flattering, fit and maintain that classic chic sophistication we’ve all come to love from them.
Brilliant collection, and huge…so take a look and enjoy 🙂
I’m feeling a tad under the weather today after a long day of appointments. But I just had to share this Givenchy collection with everyone as it’s one of their strongest collections ever! I’m fan of Givenchy so always look forward to what they come up with but I don’t think I’ve lusted after a collection of their’s quite as much as I lust after this one. Even now, sitting over chamomile tea with honey and starting at the title picture above I just cannot believe the glamour and drama this collection presented at Paris Fashion Week on Sunday. It’s quite remarkable.
It was a massive collection that introduced a variety of looks from the Marc Jacobs inspired sleep suits to shimmery flapper dresses with plunging neckline. Most of this collection made me think of the classic film title, A Star is Born. Models looked majestic under the spotlights in quite a breathtaking spectacle.
Of course no discourse on this Spring/Summer 2014 Collection would be complete without touching on the fantastic bejeweled face masks. These are amazing. Can I have one? Please? I feel saddened for the models who didn’t get to wear one because they are just so stunning!! I love how they have almost a scale-like finish to them. And the cages over their eyes? L-O-V-E!
This my friends was not just a fashion show, it was a fashion moment. Down the road this amazing line will be remembered and probably inspire many other similar looks. The greatest thing about Givenchy is their way to make waves in the fashion world and set groundbreaking trends that spiral into basically a fashion takeover. Look at their recent look of a short dress or skirt with a long veiled layer over top. That has transcended into a trend of epic proportions that you practically cannot escape!
For now, I’m going to go curl up and try to catch some sleep, and hopefully dream of this dazzling collection as it’s definite the show-stealer of Paris Fashion Week, no doubt.
Everyone enjoy. It is a work of art! 🙂
