Diving into the stunning NARS Ignited Eyeshadow palette! Is it as good as I hoped?

I must have been in holiday frenzy mode when NARS dropped the Ignited eyeshadow palette last November, because I don’t recall hearing or seeing anything about it at all. It’s a real shame, too, as I think the palette is reminiscent of The Nutcracker’s Sugarplum Fairy and the colors are perfect for the holiday season.
But as the saying goes, better late than never.
Late as I may be to get my fingers on the NARS Ignited eyeshadow palette, I’ve been using this around the clock and have become absolutely obsessed with it!
NARS Ignited Eyeshadow Palette
After falling in love with the NARS Fever Dream palette in March, my interest in the brand was peaked. While perusing Ulta’s website, I was also excited that they have started to stock NARS products and took the opportunity to cash in some of my reward dollars towards this beauty.
Eyeshadow palettes in general are my #1 makeup weakness. Try as I might to limit the number of neutral palettes I snatch up, I was simply too sucked into the berry tones of the Ignited palette to let this one go by.
Tucked inside you will find twelve shadows of varying finishes. The color selection is perfect because you’re able to create something more subtle on one hand then on the other, go full out with a flashy look filled with sparkle!

- Hammamet: Matte Beige

When crafting my eye makeup looks, personally I prefer to use a variety of textures. So it’s no surprise that I’m in love with the variety of finishes NARS included in the Ignited palette.
We all know a good crease or transitional shade is a MUST when designing a palette and we actually have two here. Hammamet is a soft beige that works as a great foundation on your eyes. Then there’s Noumea, a rich orange-brown that is perfect for adding more dimension to your crease.
To give you a better picture of how the shadows look and perform, I put together some swatches for you below.

Pigmentation
First off, I guess we have to address how pigmented the NARS Ignited palette eyeshadow actually is. This is an area where NARS tends to excel. What I found with this palette in particular is that the matte shades and deeper toned sparkles are packed with pigment and are highly visible straight off the bat.
Light Up and Atomic, two sparkly shades in the top row, aren’t as visible when swatched because of how light they are — but both work beautifully when worn atop your lid and in your inner crease.
It’s also worth noting that the glittery shades are even more dramatic when used wet.
Blendable with Limited Fallout
When using the palette, I was immediately impressed with the limited fallout – particularly with the sparkly shades. Looking at them in the pan, I assumed they’d be beautiful but leave a trail of dust on my face if wasn’t careful. I was amazed at just how wrong I was because there was very little transfer or fallout to speak of. Remarkable, really!
Length of Wear
In terms of how long these shadows last, I’m happy to report you can get a full 9-10 hours out of them…with a primer.
My Experience
I’ve honestly had so much fun playing with this palette! So much so that it’s one of the things that gets me going on those mornings when I really just want to stay in bed and hit the *snooze* button. The idea of sitting at my vanity and playing around with it excites me. (That and the promise of coffee, of course.)
The NARS Ignited eyeshadow palette includes berry-toned shades that are so different to any others in my collection. It’s perfect for experimenting and stepping outside your comfort zone – while not going TOO far into an area that might make you nervous.
I’ve been using the palette literally every day for work throughout the month of May. I also chose to pack this as my one palette to use over Memorial Day weekend when I spent four days in small-town Indiana. Sure, I may have been surrounded by farmland but my eyes were looking great!

- Priced at $59
- Includes twelve shadows with a variety of matte, satin and metallic finishes
- Strong pigmentation
- Metallic/Glitter shades are most dramatic when worn wet
- Limited fallout
- Long wear-time WITH an eyeshadow primer (I recommend Lorac or Wet n’ Wild)
- Available at Sephora, Ulta and NARS’ website
The Pros:
- Love the Berry-toned vibe of the palette. Really standout shade selection in the field of unlimited neutral palettes out there. Quite unique!
- Shades both apply and blend easily
- Sleek, compact packaging
- Surprisingly little fallout. This blew me away!
The Cons:
- I guess you could say the price, although $59 for 12 full-sized shadows is a better value than many high end eyeshadow quads out there.
- NARS does unfortunately now sell products in China. Meaning, they are no longer a certified cruelty-free brand. While they don’t perform animal tests, they do finance animal testing on their products to meet China’s sale requirements.
Overall Grade? A+
This is huge because I honestly don’t think I’ve ever graded a product an A+ on Dream in Lace. But I just love this palette so much and can’t find fault with it. After weeks of playing with it, I continue to have every bit as much fun as I did at the beginning.I also keep finding more and more ways to combine the shadows.
Then, there are the compliments. Truly, when wearing this be prepared for them to come rolling in! There truly is something so captivating about the shade selection that is quite special.
The biggest downside, of course, is that NARS allows animal testing on their products in China. My hope is that China will change these laws because it’s frustrating to see proudly cruelty-free brands like NARS and now Wet n’ Wild have to violate their principles in order to sell in the Chinese market. It’s 2019. That’s got to stop.
