Why the old-fashioned tradition of sending holiday greeting cards is one I look forward to every year.
Hello and happy Day 3 of Blogmas to you! In case you missed it, I’ve made the ambitious decision to participate in Blogmas 2019 this holiday season.
This means, there will be a new blog post on Dream in Lace every single day in the month of December! As challenging as it may be to deliver a post every day during such a hectic time, I seriously LOVE the holidays and can’t think of a better way to celebrate with you. Be sure to check back often for more festive content as the month rolls on.
Why Holiday Greeting Cards are Still Special
Today, I wanted to share about my love for holiday greeting cards!
Yes, we live in very digital times where we’re all GLUED to our devices. But to me, there is still something very special about the sentiment of sending a traditional holiday greeting cards in the mail. In fact, I dare say sending these festive greeting cards is one of my favorite things to do around the holidays.
(Right up there with watching 24/7 Christmas movies, eating all the cookies and taking in the holiday lights at every chance I get.)
The Greeting Card List
To get started, sit and pull together a mailing list of who you’d like to send holiday greeting cards to. The act of putting together your list is a great way to mentally recap your year and reflect on those who helped make it so special. Sending someone a holiday card is also a way to recognize those who might not necessarily make it onto your holiday shopping list – but still very much mean a lot to you.
By mailing a holiday greeting card to someone, you’re letting them know that they matter to you and you sincerely wish them a merry holiday season.
Finding the Perfect Greeting Card
To start, decide on a message. There’s the standard Christmas route or the more universal messages of “Happy Holidays” or “Season’s Greetings”.
Then, get shopping! Some of my favorite paper-sources are Papyrus (they have 30% off atm), American Greetings, Target and Walgreens. Another great place to find holiday cards is TJ Maxx. While they’re not available online for purchase, if you hop into your nearest store I think you’ll be amazed to see what a vast collection of holiday greeting cards they have available.
In choosing a design, I tend to go all over the place. From Christmas tees to festive snowy scenes. There’s also traditional v. contemporary. If the image on the card sparks joy for you, then you know you’re on the right track.
Writing Your Holiday Greeting Cards by Hand
Lastly, of course I have to talk about how I prefer to spend time writing out my holiday greeting cards. The more festive scene? The better!
Set yourself up with a piping hot beverage – a hot coffee, chocolate or toddy will do – and get cozy by your cheery decor. I also recommend queuing up your favorite holiday music or even turning the Hallmark channel on. The more festive vibes you can create, the better!
One by one, go through your mailing list and write a brief yet heartfelt message about why you’re thinking of that person this holiday season. The act of writing a card by hand is truly become a lost art amongst all our texting and emailing. Taking the time to write a message by hand is really special and a tradition worth keeping alive. Then, gather up your finished holiday greeting cards and send them in the mail.
The recipients of your holiday greeting cards will receive a surprise in the mail not long after that just might make their day. They’ll also have something beautiful to display throughout the holiday season! Season’s greetings, indeed.
Thank you for reading! I hope you agree that sending holiday greeting cards is a tradition worth keeping.
