Who’s ready to steal The Beguiled style, with all it’s Southern charm? I perused all the summer sales, pulling together a selection of looks to have you looking like a Southern Belle immediately – at bargain prices.
Hello there, dreamers! First off, you may have noticed I took a much-needed week off from posting. After couture week, I was a bit tuckered out and took the week to enjoy the summer weather and hit the ground running on some behind-the-scenes admin tasks. It was a very relaxing break and I feel totally recharged with a list of exciting posts on their way to Dream in Lace very soon.
But before I could talk about anything else, I simply had to talk about The Beguiled — and summer sales!!
Truth is, as soon as I got word of Sofia Coppola‘s remake starring Nicole Kidman, Elle Fanning, Kirsten Dunst and my Dolce Gabbana husband Colin Farrell – I was pretty much all in. Then, the cast made a stellar appearance at the Cannes Film Festival and my excitement skyrocketed straight through the roof.
Needless to say, I’ve been PUMPED for The Beguiled.
It’s not often ‘Oh, I’ll wait till its on iTunes or HBO’ me is motivated enough to drag her lazy self to the theater on a film’s opening weekend – but by golly, I was THERE! Under Sofia’s careful direction, the film promised to make good on the eeriness of the original – with top notch acting, the dreamiest of costumes and a concise female point of view. (Something film generally lacks, all around.)
I know.
We could all gather round in a circle like 9th grade English class to discuss the film’s scenery, dialogue, tension, directorial decisions, the overt repression of the characters, Colin Farrell’s accent and so on. But, I know what we’re really all here for and that is the fashion. So, let’s get on with it!
How to Steal The Beguiled Style!
It goes with out saying The Beguiled is a rather stylish film, both in its direction and costuming.
While I by no means wish to travel back in time to the Civil War south, I did come away from the film itching to put together a little style post for you. Even better? I wanted to take advantage of all the incredible summer sales going on right now. Fortunately for us all, the summer season featured a lot of stylish details in line with The Beguiled aesthetic.
Take for example ruffles, prim necklines, an array of white blouses and floral prints.
Quite honestly, stealing The Beguiled style is pretty darn easy with the flowing silhouettes and ladylike detailing of today’s summer styles. I dare say, you can pop into any shop and find yourself a great blouse on clearance that will have you feeling just like Elle Fanning.
But, to help you out, I went ahead and did that for you!

Thank You for Reading!
Well, are you now feeling inspired to dress with a little Southern charm during the dog days of summer? Me. Too.
I think there’s something we can all gleam from the stylish and ladylike Southern belles. Hats off to them for looking so put together in the sweltering heat and humidity of the south without central air. I mean, iconic!
Thank you so much for sharing a bit of your day with me, to swoon over the stylish costumes of The Beguiled and scale the summer sales to find similar looks! Stay tuned, because I have lots of new posts hanging up my sleeves.
Oh – AND, if you have seen The Beguiled yet – be sure to let me know who your favorite gal was! They were all so fabulous I’m kind of torn, but I think Kirsten Dunst hit it out of the park as Edwina. Awards season potential? Possibly! (Or at the very least, for Sofia for directing and writing.)
As always, stay stylish and keep chasing your dreams!
XOXO
Kelly
