On a dark and stormy night, is there anything better than some greasy food and girl talk? No.
And so after a long day at the office, I found myself hopping in the car and heading north to Main Street Social, a new lounge/pub style spot in the ever-growing city of Monroe. When an invitation comes in from Amy Wray, I’m always going to RSVP yes – and tonight she brought myself and a group of other bloggers together for a good old gab session over cocktails and herb waffle fries.
(Yes, they’re as good as they sound!)
Being a vegetarian, I was beyond happy to see not just a veggie burger on the menu – but a handcrafted one at that! Us non-meat eaters often get the short end of the stick when it comes to pub food, but at Main Street Social they’ve got us covered with greasy goodness!!
Per Amy’s suggestion, I ordered a Monroe Mule to drink – a delicious concoction of ‘Buckeye’ vodka, fresh ginger root, lime and a splash or two of ginger beer. It was equally satisfying as it was refreshing. Ginger drinks are certainly having a moment right now, and I’m definitely not complaining. As it turns out, fresh and refreshing cocktails pair very nicely with a giant veggie burger!
It was great to get out and about and trying something new on a Tuesday evening. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in the mundane work-home-bed routine that I need a nudge to break the mold. I’m also excited to discover Main Street Social, which is conveniently located a mere 5 minutes from my favorite outlet mall. (Yes, herb waffle fries will wash down my future J.Crew and Ann Taylor bargains quite nicely!)
Before I go…I want to run through the makeup products I used to carry me from a long day at work into the girl’s night out. Living life on-the-go is an ever evolving journey for me, and I figure we can all learn together! Foolproof products you can throw on in a flash with little to no facetime with a mirror? A true necessity!
And so, here are the day-to-night makeup items I tossed in my bag to carry me into the evening, while stuck in traffic jamming to Taylor Swift’s 1989 (naturally).
Laura Mercier ‘Invisible’ Powder
There’s a reason people keep talking about Laura Mercier powders, and if you haven’t yet tried this out…what are you waiting for? It’s a miracle product at touching up your face, with zero caking or glumpiness. (Is that a word? I don’t think so.)
Balenciaga Florabotanica Perfume
When I know I’m transitioning from work into an evening out, I always stash this in my purse. Its size is perfect for on-the-go, and the scent is perfect for a fun evening. Love!
Dior Iconic Overcurl Mascara
My love affair with Dior’s Iconic Overcurl mascara continues! Yet another thing that’s so fantastic about this mascara? How easily it builds when transitioning from day to night. You can literally PILE this stuff on, with zero clumps!
MAC Perfectly Poised Skinfinish
Multi-functional products are ideal when you’re in a rush and jumping from day to night. The perfect solution? A bronzer/blush duo like this Mineralize Skinfinish from MAC.
Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain – Romantic
As a balm stain, this doesn’t apply as a true red…but, instead is a gorgeous rusty orange that really flatters my auburn hair and coloring. BEST thing about these Revlon lip balms no? They’re easily applied without a mirror. I wager this is as bold as you can go and freckles. My favorite thing about these Revlon lip balms? They’re pretty darn easy to apply without a mirror. They’re an ‘on the run’ favorite!
Marc Jacobs Gel Highliner – Brown(Out)
The Marc Jacob’s Highliner’s are fantastic any day of the week – but their holiday gift set make these the ultimate eye product on the go. You can easily smudge this along your lash line (while in traffic, without a mirror) and give yourself a subtle ‘smokey’ eye.
A big thank you to my pal Amy Wray for organizing such a fun, relaxing night. If you’re not familiar with Amy, she’s the mastermind behind Mod City Magazine and is basically a guru in all things digital..and shoe…related. I dug through the Dream in Lace archives to find a feature I did on Amy (here), to help you learn more about her general awesomeness! Definitely check her out!
Also, let me know your beauty tips and tricks for transitioning from a long day at the office to a night out. I’m always happy to hear your suggestions 🙂
Have a great weekend, and keep dreaming!
