Happy Monday dreamer! Grab some caffeine because award season is in full swing! Friday the Hollywood Film Awards made their way onto television Friday night, for the very first time. CBS picked up the award show to kickoff awards season, and they meant SERIOUS business. Not only was the awards show televised, but we were also treated to a red carpet pre-show and an after party follow-up. (Though, both were hosted by Oprah’s BFF Gail and were a bit of a snoozer, if I’m being honest.) In general Friday nights are quiet on television, so why not fill up primetime with coverage of A-list celebs like Julianne Moore, Reese Witherspoon, Kristen Stewart and Kiera Knightley? Johnny Depp was also there – entirely wasted – which was completely fabulous if you ask me. (Seriously, look that up on YouTube!)
The Hollywood Film Awards are kind of odd, in that there are no nominees. But, they’ve proven to be quite the predictor of who will end up with THE golden statue at the end of the tunnel: the Academy Award. So, let’s kick off a new week by taking a glimpse at what the stars chose to wear to the first ‘big’ red carpet of the season!
From Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad to Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace, there was no shortage of big names in big designers. JLo is probably Zuhair Murad’s #1 customer, so it wasn’t surprising to see her sporting this cocktail length dress. Also not a big surprise was Julianne Moore, who took home the award for lead actress for her role in Still Alice. Moore was rocking some great Balenciaga fashion, which felt quite fitting as she’s been on a bit of atear with Balenciaga as of late – wearing a fab black look to the Mockingjay Part I premiere last week. We can pretty much guarantee Moore will be nominated for an Oscar, do we think she’ll continue with Balenciaga to that? Oh and btw, Still Alice I seriously hope will be showing in one of the artsy theaters nearby, and if not…I’m praying for an early iTunes or onDemand release because it looks like such a moving film.
Of course my pseudo boyfriend Robert Pattinson was there, although it was difficult to see his controversial haircut. He’s bald in the back if you didn’t know. Oh RPattz, you funny odd duck! On a serious note though, I saw The Rover recently and was so impressed by his performance that I just had to throw a picture of him into this post. It’s great to see teeny-bopper stars evolve into true artists.
Such as, his Twilight counterpart Kristen Stewart who was rocking Chanel Fall 2014 Couture:
Kristen is also in Still Alice and while I was a big skeptic at first, I’m starting to warm up to the KStew/Chanel marriage. Leave it to Karl Lagerfeld to make the unimaginable work. I’ve always been a bit ‘eh’ when it came to Kstew, but she seems to be really evolving and maturing in the last year. Maybe a haircut is all she needed? Or some single time out of the spotlight. The early twenties are such a weird time for us all and I think she’s navigating her way out of those weird years nicely. If nothing else, her red carpet style is seriously on point!
Opposite of on-point fashion, let’s talk about problematic appearances:
Really the only big dud of the night belonged to Laura Dern, who wore my absolutely FAVORITE of Alberta Ferretti‘s Pre-Fall 2014 Collection (here), except on Dern it falls completely flat – bordering on ratty looking. I’ve literally been WAITING to see that dress make a red carpet appearance but what turned up was such a disappointment I hardly even recognized it. In this case I can’t fault the dress, so Dern I guess is to blame 😉 Sorry hun.
But moving on, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Felicity Jones made appearances. As did Dior, J. Mendel, Alexander McQueen and more! Take a few minute break to see what everyone wore:
Now that we’re officially in awards season, I’m getting really excited for the Pre-Fall and Fall 2015 collections to start rolling out. This award season is also shaping up to have some serious big hitters on the way. I mean, Angelina Jolie ALONE is reason to pay attention to the red carpet. Not to mention Kiera Knightley, who always makes stellar choices.
Next on my radar from the red carpet is this Sunday’s American Music Awards, which I will be live-tweeting so be sure to follow along! And of course, next Monday, the morning after the AMAs, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on THAT red carpet with Best and Worst Dressed Lists on the way. Any music award show always comes with a bit of whack, so that should be fun!
I wish everyone a fantastic week and *cheers* to another fantastic award season ahead!
