It’s been a long few months. Work and life have been busy and I feel like I’ve been running around chasing my tail since May! Thankfully, (*phew*) things should be quieting down a bit (at least to a simmer instead of a boil) and I can devote more time to nurturing myself and the corners of my life that have fallen by the waist-side!
I spent last weekend buckling down and getting back into the groove. Let me tell you, it was kind of exhausting! Cleaning, organizing, straightening for hours on end sure tired me out. But, there’s something about getting everything back in order that’s quite refreshing! I’m not a neat-freak by nature, but I do think organized and tidy surroundings add less clutter to your life all-around.
I figure with back-to-school just around the corner, there’s a whole lot of us that need to get back into the groove of everyday life. Here are the things I’ve been doing to help me slip back into my regular routine.
Read (or Skim) a Mountain of Magazines
With work and all my book reading, I acquired a substantial stack of magazines. For weeks I considered just tossing them all out, but I’m really glad I didn’t. I find reading other great content is enjoyable, but also inspiring! It’s like reviving my energy pool. Seeing others’ great ideas motivates me to give birth to great ideas of my own. It’s like adding fuel to the fire! So, last weekend I spent loads of time flipping through the summer issues of Vogue, Allure, Vanity Fair, W Magazine etc. I didn’t manage to get through all – but I did make a nice dent!
Finally Getting to the Seamstress!
A tragic thing happened to one of my favorite skirts last spring, I snagged and ripped the hemline of a J.Crew navy and white polka dot beauty! It was heartbreaking. Not too long after I somehow screwed up the zipper on a favorite pair of dress shorts to the point where it all around needs to be replaced. Since, I’ve literally been driving around for months in hopes I’d eventually make my way to the dry-cleaners to have them repaired. No more is my car the home of broken clothes! I managed to finally get them to the seamstress and will have them repaired and in my closet for fall, soon.
Catching Up on Laundry
Not to mention – the mountains of laundry I had to get caught up on. Basically, I needed to get fabrics in my life in order! Things went awry! My weekend was spent transferring load after load into the washer and dryer, but my closet and bed now are feeling quite refreshed. Is there anything better than a clean pair of sheets at night? No!
Clean My Office on Wheels
Bouncing around to three locations for work, means I’m always working out of a computer bag (and often even two!), meaning, my car serves as a messy desk!! A car wash, deep clean and vacuuming were definitely in order and now I no longer *cringe* every single time I go for a drive. Darcy’s looking much, much better! (She’s named after Mr. Darcy of Pride and Prejudice if you’re curious!)
Prepare My Own Food
(Especially SALAD.) When you’re working late, the last thing you want to do is go to the grocery store. Even when I mustered up the energy to do that, the idea of preparing a full meal was daunting. I became a regular at salad bars across town. A salad bar is great, but making your own salad is even better! Moving forward, I’m excited to get back in the swing of preparing my own meals. I thoroughly enjoy cooking and definitely don’t want to look at a Subway for a long time.
I guess there’s many more things I could add to the list that I plan to get into the swing of: sleeping more, eating better, exercising more, eating candy less, etc. I’m also on a mission to get back on top of my schedule. Things have been a jumbled mess all summer long! *fingers crossed* Things don’t go haywire again anytime soon.
And to those of you heading back to school: good luck!
