Having a luxury addiction is quite costly, and yet I can’t seem to tear myself apart from my Marc Jacobs gel eyeliners. (post here) They’re like pure heaven! But recent history has reintroduced me to Clinique and I’ve discovered that their eyeshadows are actually flawless. So, while at Sephora I was thrilled to find they made eye pencils that ring up much less than my favorites from Marc Jacobs.
The Clinique Quickliner for Eyes in Intense Truffle became mine and since I’ve been playing around with it and putting it to the test. This time of year is basically World War III for makeup to stay put. It’s like humidity and heat are shooting bombs at our makeup to make it self-destruct. So does this stand up to the monsterous weather of summer?
It’s definitely much more long-lasting than drugstore alternatives, but doesn’t quite set as well as the Marc Jacobs version. If you’re a very good girl and don’t touch your eyes through the day, this should do pretty well for you though.
Colorwise, I really love this and find it to be the perfect final touch to a quick eye-look. Mostly, I use this on my lower lash line and smudge out with my finger. It has a smudger included on the pencil but I find that’s too rough and rubs off the product.
One thing that disappoints is the packaging. These twist up pencils never work that well in my opinion and it’s so easy for the product to flick off. I know Clinique is in the lower end of department store makeup, but I find they should be able to invest a bit more into their packaging than these that remind me so much of the Maybelline pencils I hate. Overall, if I had to give this pencil a grade I’d give it a B. I like it, but don’t love it. It’s something I’ll definitely use up, and possibly even pick up another shade or two. It does the job I want it to, it just hasn’t quite blown me away the way their matte eyeshadows have.
What’s your favorite liner for a quick sweep of color?
