Mara Hoffman presented diversity for Fall 2014 at New York Fashion Week, and not just in the range of models cast but in the clothes themselves. While most of the Fall 2014 collections, have had a very succinct look travelling through entire collections, Hoffman carries a theme but injects new trends along the way to help the looks feel fresh and like constant reinventions.
Here’s a breakdown of the best styling tips of Mara Hoffman that you can input to your everyday style starting today!
GO PRINT, OR GO HOME!
For Fall 2014, Mara presented a collection filled with loud, psychedelic and at times tribunal prints. She doesn’t shy away from wearing too much of a print either, styling models from head to toe. To center a loud print, Mara include some solids. Be it an undershirt hanging open or tucked out, or a crop top revealing skin to center the look…having a bit of solid keeps this leveled enough that you don’t go totally dizzy taking them in.
Don’t be afraid of mixing prints! – declares Hoffman, who mixes prints to the extreme with these loud checkered and Aztec prints paired together. It seems to be a running theme through Mara’s latest. I mean, as if loud prints weren’t enough on their own now we’re mixing them together. A loud print paired with another loud print? I must say, it’s a little obnoxious and not helping my throbbing migraine – but it’s also sort of lethally chic.
WALK LIKE AN EGYPTIAN
The above dresses are two of my favorite pieces from NYFW as a whole this round. They’re an interesting blend of tribal and Egyptian that’s kind of showstopping. Okay, so not even kind of showstopping – they are showstoppers. Period. Perfect gowns that swish along with grace yet are quite strong. I love them so much I can’t stop staring at them. It’s relaxed glamour at its best.
It was a sincere wish of mine that the fringe trend birthed in the Spring 2014 Collections would carry on for fall. Enter Mara Hoffman’s fringed pieces and my smile grows very big. She takes fringe to new heights with caftans, crop tops, pants, jackets and full length gowns decorated head to toe in fringe. No surface is safe from some fringe benefits – adding movement and dimension to each look.
Remember all the cat sweaters from Fall 2013? You couldn’t walk into an H&M without being bombarded with panthers, leopards etc. being thrust in your face. Apparently the trend is still an ongoing thing – or at least according to Mara Hoffman. Only, this time we skip the felines and head towards giraffes, which aptly fit into the African theme running through this collection.
HOOD IT OUT!
Nothing says cool quite like a hooded caftan, am I right? Take this look and infuse it into your daytime or nighttime ensemble for a touch of regal glam.
Mara Hoffman’s African-inspired Fall 2014 Collection is energetic and inspired. I love the number of ways she transforms her models. And so when walking to your closet these days, remember this collection to help you mix up your daily look to be a bit more spirited. Wear loud prints, and even mix them. Wear hoods, animal printed sweaters and fringe! Essentially, break out of the everyday traditions of minimalism in favor of fashion bravery!
