Cheers to us! Not only did we survive the week, we survived this brutal month of January! I, for one, am not sad to see this bitter, cold month go. January was quite stressful for me, and there’s definitely no love lost to see it go. All month though, I have wanted to employ more series/regular posts to bring a bit of structure to my counter of the internet. While January had it’s big downfalls, I did have a lot of fun covering the red carpet fashions of award season. Starting today and moving forward, Friday’s we’ll look back on the Best and Worst Red Carpet Looks of the Week. Obviously I will still do my routine Best and Worst posts around big award shows (the upcoming BAFTAs and Oscars) as well as other special events (i.e. the Met Gala). Friday’s will cover the routine red carpet and press tours looks of our favorite celebs. Looks that makes us smile and looks that make us cringe.
In case you missed it, Sunday was the Grammy Awards, and I have two posts covering the best fashion moments of the night. If you haven’t yet, definitely take a look at the Best of the Worst and The Hottest looks.
BUT, today I’m not talking Grammys. I’ve moved onto greener and more Cate Blanchett pastures.
Cate Blanchett in Givenchy
Last fall, when Givenchy paraded models down the Paris runways in bejeweled masks and long, draping, shimmering gowns. It was a fashion moment. They took Spring 2014 and ran with it in one of the strongest collections last year. (full collection) So, of course Cate Blanchett aptly sported a look from the collection this week at an award show in Australia. The way she carries herself is so stately and gracious that I do think she could wear a sack and make it look amazing. She’s a freak of nature in that respect. I mean, the woman just can’t look bad. Period. And since I have been lusting over the idea of Cate in SS2014 Givenchy all award season long, I crown this my favorite of the entire week. And yes, that knocks out anyone at the Grammy’s as well.
Recently I wrote about Cate’s history of great fashion moments. Check out that post!
Lily Collins in Emilio Pucci
Oh look who it is, my 2013 girl crush Lily Collins looking seriously dashing in this Emilio Pucci romper. It’s almost unfair how perfectly adorable she is. Her hair is the short hair that I so want to have…but would never be able to pull off. Somehow this girl always looks spot on perfect while appearing to put in not much effort at all. Perhaps she attended the Cate Blanchett Academy of Greatness?
Anne Hathaway in Viktor and Rolf
Anne Hathaway seems to be committed to her short, pixie cut…and who can blame her? It’s cute and spunky, just like this tailored Viktor and Rolf ensemble, with some seriously pointed shoes. It’s nice to see Anne looking happy and fresh. Sporty is a good look for her.
And now that we’ve got the good out of the way, let’s talk about the bad. The very bad.
Diane Kruger in Erdem
Diane Kruger and Erdem are two pronouns I never imagined classifying as Worst Dressed. But, this is surprisingly chaotic and messy – going against all things prim and demure circa all other Erdem designs. The fit is awful, as is her pose. Diane appears to be working overtime to fill out the oversized top and crop pants, but her efforts are sadly wasted. I will vouch that she has one amazing clutch! Beyond that, the whole things need to be pitched. Sorry Erdem, this is not one of your best efforts. I appreciate your support though Diane.
Katy Perry in Dolce and Gabbana
This is criminal it’s so bad. Dolce and Gabbana, I love and adore you but the world does not need this print, let alone this print in a full gown and cape. Katy Perry seems to take great joy in wearing truly ridiculous garments. Somehow, she always manages to walk in a great designer’s store room and find the one thing of a sea of beautiful that’s a complete joke. And I hate her bangs. When I was in college I wore bangs and a girl in my dorm did not like me on account of my bangs. At the time, I thought that was ridiculous to completely write someone off because of bangs. Right now, I’m having second thoughts. That girl really knew what she was talking about.
Whoever designed this dress is lucky: they, apparently, choose to remain anonymous…and wisely so. I honestly forgot about Rosario Dawson and this is no friendly reminder.
So there we have it. Good, bad and horrifically bad looks from this week. Whose
