Alberta Ferretti Pre-Fall 2014 comes at the tail end of a long Pre-Fall season, on the cusp of the couture shows, which are mere days away, and the busy shuffle of Berlin Fashion Week. It’s been a busy week in the high fashion world with competing draws of attention at every turn. And yet, as we’re limping tiredly along, this collection commands the credit it deserves. It cuts through the noise with a regal, sporty royal collection full of day and evening looks that would crown anyone the queen of her clan.
Earlier this month I pronounced my love of blue and black together at Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2014 (full review). To me it’s not a color clashing combo, but rather cool and expressive. To see black and blue pop up in all their Ferretti glory in Pre-Fall 2014, made my excitement only amplify. Where Nina put navy, Alberta puts royal blue…making clothes that pop! And that’s before the decadent gold embroidering. These preppy and athletic pieces are modern yet beckon an aristocratic tone. Killer.
(Yes, I just said killer and I’m pretty sure that’s the first time I ever have so…clearly I’m pumped.) (And now I said pumped.) (See how much this combo turns my brain to mush? Let’s move on.
Oh hi there pretty royal blue, flowing dresses with black detailing such as the chunky black boots or black sheer sleeves. Why, aren’t you a lovely trip of looks for a young girl to skirt around town in?
These are really sophisticated – without being boring. It’s a nice blend to put a classic, elegant dress with chunky heals in a way that exudes dressed up street style. I also really love how seasonally appropriate these are. After browsing Berlin Fashion Week collections that overflowed with a streak of springy looks, it’s nice to see awareness of what the weather will actually be like in the September and October months.
I love the top left coat. As a vegetarian, it really pains me to say it…but, fur factor aside: that is one genius garment. It’s so beautifully plush and the color hits and reflects light in a beautifully and eye catching way. I also love the idea of it being a fusion piece, that’s a little bit dress where’s it’s a whole lot coat. Wouldn’t it be fun to wear more coats that could double as a really cool dress? Can we make this an actual thing this year please? Thank you!
It’s also of note how beautiful the introduction of greens is into this collection. Greens and blues work flawlessly together and are very serene partners. They work together like watercolors, blending in and out of each other to create a finished masterpiece.
The showstopper of this collection is a range of spectacular gowns. I mean, it’s Alberta Ferretti. You honestly didn’t think you could get out of this without some dramatic and majestic gowns did you? Didn’t think so.

These are so beautiful they kinda take your breath away. The SAG awards are this weekend, and I really hope to see one of these on the red carpet. Or at the Oscars. I mean, they’re just so gorgeous I want to see them in action.
Standout look for me of this entire collection, is the beautiful satin, embroidered evening jacket. It breaks the traditional mold of a ballgown, while maintaining the same, apt level of grace. It’s 2014, we can officially embrace the pantsuit as formal wear. Also great? The gold encrusted heals. Those are some seriously amazing shoes and offset the royal headpiece beautifully. It’s aristocracy at its finest!
Are you in love with this collection as much as I am? Weigh in in the comments? I’m curious to see how black and blue play out in the Fall collections.
