Knowing how to wear oxblood lipstick is actually not as difficult as you think. What is oxblood? It’s the dark red that worked its way down runways and red carpets alike all through 2013 – and with the release of MAC‘s Punk Couture Collection with Studded Kiss right after Christmas, it’s set to be a big thing for quite some time. And I’m definitely not complaining. Oxblood lipstick is a defining look that’s actually quite easy to pull off. All you have to do? Stick to the basics. Neutral eye and face makeup keep you from looking overdone and give your look just the right amount of drama – that works either day or night.
Reasons to love an oxblood lip? It’s flattering on all skin tones and instantly awakens your face. In the day of ‘everything’, you can find oxblood in an array of formulas ranging from a gloss or balm to a full coverage satin or matte lipstick. No matter finish you want, there’s an option for you!
To achieve the best oxblood lip, apply to pre-moisturized lips. I like to wear a balm while doing my face makeup, allowing it to fully sink in before applying lipstick. A liner also goes a long way in getting the maximum amount of wear from your lipstick. And of course, outlining your lips with concealer lightly will prevent any feathering and make the oxblood pop even more.
Here are two great examples of how to wear your face makeup from inspirational beauties Lily Collins and Scarlett Johansson:

I vote rock the oxblood lip while you can in these colder months of winter. It will give you a polished and sophisticated look, without going to much effort at all. To make a really dramatic look, you could add a smokey eye for night time – but I think it looks most chic when worn as the centerpiece of your face.
