Lately The Walking Dead has been less of a television show and more of a reality when I glimpse in the mirror. A combination of sleepless nights and harsh winter conditions have taken a beating on my face. Who knew your skin could be perfectly clear, yet look frighteningly like sh*t! In regular times, I use one concealer – but in these horrific and desperate days, I’ve had to widen the scope to include a more intense regimen. These days, I longingly look back in better times when I would casually whip on foundation and concealer without much care and attention. No, today much more time and effort goes into not looking like a zombie, but alas I have found a winning combination that not only conceals my dark circles but brightens my face to trick people into thinking I’m alert.
It’s a winning trifecta of concealers that when paired together resurrects my face from Walker status back to human form. Here is How Not to Look Like a Zombie, in three steps!
Concealer is the first step in jolting life back into your face. It’s like grabbing jumper cables and kick-starting your skin. This winter has been like World War 3 on my skin, and it sounds basic, but concealer is still my number one weapon..and I decided why arm myself with one, when I can arm myself with a trifecta?!
Once my face is moisturized, I apply a primer…but if you’re not a primer girl, go right into the concealer. Under my foundation I’ve been using NYX Above & Beyond Full Coverage Concealer. This is a great formula. It’s thick enough that it packs a lot of power, but creamy enough that it smooths out and doesn’t crease or settle into fine lines. I do prefer using this under my foundation, but it does also work atop it too.
You’re ready to move onto the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer, I don’t need to go into much detail about this because it is very hyped, but I like this concealer because it is a heavy concealer in terms of coverage, but lightweight in terms of formula. This will be the finishing touch to covering your dark circles, and the first step in brightening your eye.
A brightening concealer may not be the best in giving coverage, but it will awaken your face like none other. Think of it like espresso for your skin. YSL Touche Eclat is the most famous, but quite pricey…I’ve been using the L’Oreal Magic Lumi Highlighter and feel it does just as well – it is really, an identical concept. I apply this atop my cheek bones and up. Pat this in to brighten that full under eye area. You’ll be amazed how effective using a concealer a shade lighter than your skin with brightening properties can be in invigorating your complexion!
And by now, your face will be beautifully flawless, radiant and, most importantly, awake!! Definitely remember to set your work with a powder. You’ve put a lot of effort and product into not looking a zombie, best to set it so it doesn’t run all over the place.
I will say, while I highly recommend these concealers…the principal here is:
full coverage concealer + concealer + brightening concealer = anti-zombie, radiant face
I so hope I’ve helped someone, and I so hope I’m not alone in looking like pure death this winter. Both under-eye circles and redness have plagued my complexion. Here’s hoping that winter soon runs far, far away…but if it doesn’t, at least we’re safely armed with concealer!
