Whilst perusing BlogLovin’ you can often discover the Great Unknown. Tuesday, one of my favorite blog’s This Chick’s Got Style posted an up close and personal look at David Laport‘s debut at Amsterdam Fashion Week. My mouth dropped at the delicate, whispy silhouettes and was quite taken back that this was his debut on a big fashion stage. Judging by this collection, I’d have to say he’s a true natural with talent some designers don’t achieve even after years of hard effort.
It’s a very springy-fall collection, I must say, what with the delicate flowers and airy fit. But what is so defining is the creation of this gorgeous silhouette that takes accordion fashion to a new level.
Orange continues to be a big trend on the Fall runways, and Laport didn’t shy away from the color. His designs are light and energetic, and orange plays into them perfectly. Honestly, I can’t tell you how impressed I am by this line. In many ways, I see a very strong essence of Dior, and that is obviously never a bad thing. This isn’t to accuse David Laport of emulating the work of Dior, no – he has a very obvious vision of his own
While swooning and gawking over my laptop at the runway shots, I tried to dig up some research on Laport. He’s a young designer, who only graduated in 2012 from the Royal Academy of the Arts in Hague. But already you can feel the buzz surrounding him. There’s something really enchanting about his windblown looks. They’re quite curious and I’m excited to have discovered him among internet land because I have a feeling he’s onto something big.
His site also had some really fantastical backstage shots:
It’s always fun to take a look through the looking glass and glimpse a bit of the magic behind a runway show. A sketch clearly represents the true vision of the designer, it’s the garments footprints and it helps you fully understand the beauty at work because you see it in it’s purest form: brush strokes.
I of course also have to comment on the very bold eye looks for spring. A champion for orange, I’ve hopped aboard that bandwagon with full force. But, even I had not considering something so bold as an eye color. (My collection of neutral palettes would help you understand why.) Why not bring punchy orange to the eyes? If anything, Laport makes me question my safety net and if I really need it. Perhaps we could all be a little more daring this fall, and embrace the unexpected!
Are you impressed with David Laport’s big debut? Take a look at his website, and bookmark it for future reference because I’m pretty sure he’s here to stay!
As always, stay stylish and keep chasing your dreams!
