Italian fashion house Etro knows that great things come in small packages. And their Pre-Fall 2014 Collection is just that, small. With a lookbook displaying only six looks, they get right to the point. And what a good point it is. Good fashion doesn’t have to come in an a grandiose collection. No, if anything is to be grandiose in fashion, it should be the fashion itself.
And this collection is definitely big with their signature bold prints, eye-catching heals and an at times jarring color palette. Each look draws you into a statement, like showpiece prints standing center-stage in a season wrought with solids. It’s definitely a defining collection of Pre-Fall 2014. Standing proud with looks that appeal equally to our feminine and masculine nature.
The clothes are all light-weight, but well tailored…giving a more defined silhouette for this transitional season than the loose flowing pieces of hot and humid summers. At times, I even sense bit of retro, circa the 1980s. (See look 6)
I love the way they pulled a secondary color from the prints to become a primary color in shoes. It really pulls the looks together, tethering them to common ground. And hey, it’s nice to tie prints to a solid root. It keeps the look succinct rather than all over the map. This is a great tip to keep in mind when experimenting with loud prints. Always try to tie them back to a solid piece: shoes, a bag, scarf etc.
Let’s also take a moment to discuss the loud, smokey eye, which really becomes a statement on its own in this presentation. Cheeks and lips are kept neutral, to really draw you to this smokey and heavily lined eye. It really compliments the edginess of the collection. It’s definitely severe, but not overly harsh.
Etro really works it in Pre-Fall 2014. The Etro woman will be transitioning to fall in all the right ways. Spicing up the eye and introducing light-weight jackets, greens and maroons to the closet is perfect for that odd time of year between sweltering heat and cold nights. Well done!
