Happy New Year’s Eve Pretties!
What better way to ring in the new year, than to talk about your favorite beauty products of 2013? These products go beyond monthly favorites and into obsession territory, where I cannot live without them (literally). Please get your pen and paper handy, because you may want to take notes and add these babies to your Beauty Shopping List! They come with a solid stamp of approval, 5 out of 5 stars, two thumbs up…the whole shebang!
I cannot express enough how wonderful this product is. Yes, I mentioned it again and again on this blog but that is still not enough to address the perfection of this product. Hands down, the easiest foundation to use in the world! Beautiful finish. Lasts all day (without primer or powder even). Works well on all skin types. It’s awesome. A-W-E-S-O-M-E! Holy grail indeed.
Holy Grail product #2! I have raved on and on about this product, but lived in fear of my opinion changing once it started to dry out. YSL mascaras are famous for drying out quickly and while I have to say this doesn’t last ages…while drying out I like it JUST AS MUCH! But in a totally different way. (Does that even make sense?) Though it’s drying, it still creates the longest lashes in the world…separates like a dream, never flakes, lasts all day. So, what I mean to say is…you cannot throw a fault on this mascara because it will keep on fighting back with a vengeance. I’ve already repurchased this and will again, and again. Baby Doll is my favorite mascara of 2013, and ever. SOLD!
Depending on where you live in the world, this product is called Show Off or Apocalips. But, no matter where you live in the world: these are the best lip products in the drugstore. Period. They’re the perfect hybrid of a lipstick and gloss. These lip lacquers are truly a lipstick finish, in a gloss form and are extremely pigmented and long-lasting. As well, the foot of the applicator is really quite perfect and hugs your lips nicely so they’re also very easy to apply. I don’t even have a favorite color because no matter if you’re going natural or bold, they are winners! Thank you Rimmel for these. There is truly not a better lip lacquer on the market in the drugstore or high end. These are it.
2013, the year of the chubby stick takeover! They were everywhere, in every color, from every brand. Which one takes the cake for me? Revlon’s Matte Balm Stain in ‘Standout’. The matte balms in general are really fabulous because they prove that you don’t have to sacrifice moisture for a great matte look. The formula is creamy and moisturizing. Go figure! Standout in particular is my favorite however, as it is essentially the perfect red. (And I do love me red lips!) This feels so nice on your lips and really holds up against drinking and food, which is quite remarkable. It also doesn’t transfer all over your hands and face like many other red lip products. I lived in this all fall and will continue to until they take this baby away from me (which Revlon better never do!).
Okay, so yes it’s another lip product…but what can I say? I like lip products. This formula is my favorite lipstick formula on the market. It’s so creamy I feel like I’m applying shea butter to my lips. The color payoff is also so very divine. Forbidden Burgandy itself is my all time favorite because it is the perfect berry tone. Also, as this product is so creamy, it’s actually very versatile. You can build this up for a solid, bold look very easily OR you can just touch a little to your lips and smudge it out as a beautiful balm stain. I love it both ways for sure. This is definitely my favorite berry lip product in my collection. A must have!
I had to include a MAC lipstick as they are the most worn of any brand and of my collection, yet I struggled on which to choose because I have about 5 favorites that were in constant rotation all of 2013. As Riri/Ruby Woo is such a universal lipstick, it took the prize. Hey, I may not know you’re skin tone…but I do know this red will look great on you. Every girl needs a signature red lipstick in their collection, and this is my pick!
I’ve devoured numerous of these throughout 2013, and when I say devoured I mean: I ate them. These glosses taste delicious that I truly had to fight my own self off my lips. (Seriously!) When I managed not to eat this goodness away, the gloss lasts an amazingly long time. Yet, the formula is not sticky at all. In fact, I would define this as a smooth gloss that is intensely moisturizing. I would put this up against some serious chapped lips, and sit back as it conquered them. I’ve managed to convince even males to use this. Honest. When you spot a male friend pulling out his pink gloss to moisturize his lips, you know you’re onto something. Props to you Philosophy! (Really wish I had a picture to throw in right now.. ;))
Stila in general brought me my favorite eyeshadows in 2013, but this palette stands out to me the most in its marriage of purples and neutrals, (my two favorite things) As if that’s not enough, included is also a stunning, shimmering highlight and an essential matte black. It’s really, the perfect palette. If I were to custom design a color palette, it would look exactly like this. What more could a girl need? Thank you Stila for decorating my eyes in 2013 and as I’m already happily ringing in 2014 (see NYE makeup) with this, here’s to more love to come!
Yes, Soft & Gentle receives a lot of attention, but it is completely worthy. In fact, if I had to say who does the best highlighters period it would be MAC…this being their most signature one. It’s such a brilliant highlighter! Soft & Gentle brings just the right touch of glow to your cheeks. Think of the term ‘sun kissed’ – but rather than the sun, an angel/fairy is doing the kissing. That is the effect of Soft & Gentle on your skin. Beautiful!
<divELF Fuschia Fusion Blush (very similar)
I happily fell in love with ELF Cosmetics in 2013. ELF produces great makeup and makeup tools at an unbelievable cost. Blush is a product I don’t really obsess over, and so for me to find a blush that I would really fight to recommend is recognition of its strength. This blush is the perfect pink and has a beautiful shimmer that threads throughout. When I need a pick me up, (which I often do as I’m not a morning person), this is my best friend. I start by forcing a smile to apply and by the time I’m finished, the smile is real. If anything, let alone a blush, can make me smile in the morning…it’s a winner!
And when I finish smiling over my cheeks, I start smiling over my liquid eyeliner. This liquid eyeliner costs $1. In today’s age, you really can’t get much at that price…and yet you can get the perfect eyeliner. There’s something about this particular applicator that is so easy for me to use. It might not work that way for everyone? But for me it works great! And I really like this formula. It’s not too wet where you have to be really careful. Also, this sets really quickly and lasts all day. I have had zero trouble with smudging, flaking or any disappearing act…and when you can get all that from a $1 eyeliner, why would you shop for anything else?
This pencil is such a daily staple for me that I barely remember it exists. As in, this is so ingrained in my daily life that it has become like breathing. Since discovering this pencil in the spring, I have used nothing else on my eyebrows. It is so very creamy and I love that it also has a spooly built right in. It’s the little things that count! You’ll see this pop up in every tutorial of mine because it’s simply: all I use. Which may sound boring, but at least that shows commitment JAnd me and this pencil are fully married, with 10 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats and a fish. There’s no separating us!
When I tried this product out, I suspected it could be a life-changing moment…and I wasn’t wrong. Since, I do not paint my nails without it. I did acrylics for a long time and have tried gel, but I cannot stand the damage it does to my nails. So I’m left with the battle of chipped nails. That is, until I found this miracle product.
This recipe is the perfect recipe for long-lasting nails, that have a slight gel finish to them. My manicures last soooo long now! It’s seriously a lifesaving product and is super affordable at Sally’s Beauty Supply. So, sooooo grateful for this!
Et Voila! Those are my picks for Best Makeup of 2013! What products were you guys loving this year? Please share with me in the comments or send me the links to your posts. I’m always happy to learn of more fabulous goodies!
