Lately, a great debate has been weighing heavily on my mind. Okay, maybe not quite so heavily but it has been on my mind. When Clinique came out with the Chubby Sticks, they introduced a craze that now L’Oreal and Revlon are jumping on board with: chubby lip crayons.
What is a lip crayon you ask? Well, it’s a lip product that applies literally like a crayon. It takes the young to full adult aged woman back to the basics: coloring. Only this time your filling in the lines of your lips, not your favorite Barbie coloring book.
I purchased these separately and without intent of pinning them against each other, but in using them felt they should go together in a Battle of the Drugstore Lip Crayons!
Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain
This deep berry plum is the fattest of the two and this factor I found myself caring about much more than I would’ve thought. The application is super easy. It is a marriage of a balm and a stain, but definitely leans more to the balm side as this is definitely not very long wearing. It does give more coverage than your average balm, but is definitely not as pigmented as a true lipstick.
Le Matte Colour Riche
408 She’s so Matte
I was drawn to this color because it reminds me very much of MAC’s Impassioned lipstick, which is a major favorite of mine. This is the first of the two I purchased and wanted to try this because I was drawn to the ‘matte’ factor. While I wouldn’t say this is as wonderful as Impassioned itself, it is a pretty decent drugstore dupe. The wear is not as long but this definitely stays on your lips a fair amount of time. I love the application of this because it applies very smoothly and has a nice matte/satin finish to it. Of the two, this is most similar to a lipstick.
And the winner is……
No, I wasn’t completely blown away by either of these products but I have to give it to L’Oreal for having smoother and more even coverage. I do take in consideration though that this boils down to a preference in finish. If you are a big fan of balms, you will really like the Revlon version.
Downside? It appears these L’Oreal le Matte and le Lacquers are super limited edition. I couldn’t find a link for them anywhere online. That said, I only bought this the other day so if you swing by your local grocery or drugstore I’m sure you could find them. I found mine on a display and now think I will pick up another color before they’re completely gone.
Have you gotten in on this chubby stick trend? How are you liking it? Stud or dud?
