Hey Pretties 🙂
Last spring I went to a beauty event at Nordstrom with my mom and had loads of fun. So of course when the beauty department staff told me weeks ago they were hosting the event again, I’ve been anxiously looking forward to it. It’s a great way to introduce yourself to a brand and their line of products. Last time I visited Philosophy where they prepped my skin, running through all of the products that would work best for me. I then had my makeup done by Laura Mercier, and I have to say, while I am pretty happy with the way I do my own makeup, I have never looked better than when walking away from that chair. They made my cheeks and lashes do things I didn’t even know was possible!
This event is going to be lots of fun with a Beauty ‘Fashion’ Show in the morning, followed by individual makeup by every counter where they bring in brand gurus to tell you everything you want to know. I know MAC as well will host a private event showcasing many of the looks they create on the runways and I’m excited to see that.
I’ll be having my makeup done by NARs this time, but I am by no means only looking to NARs for purchases. Since I’ve been on a ‘Spending Ban’ building up to this, I’ve made note of things I want to look at and compiled a bit of a “Wishlist”.
Here are ten of the items I am most excited to look at this Saturday’s event. These are all products I have heard only good things about and/or have already been interested in. I’m not likely to buy all of these, or be limited to just what’s on this list…these are just 10 items on my radar that should be on your radar too 🙂
1. NARS Lipgloss in ‘Super Orgasm’
Everyone’s heard of the Orgasm and Super Orgasm blushes from NARS. They’re notoriously known for their names, and well known for their great quality and color, not for anything that may show up on tubev.sex despite the name (though it likely wouldn’t be a shock if some of the actors were wearing it). I, though, am not in the market for a traditional pink blush, but am on the lookout for a good lip gloss. I’m not a lip gloss wearer, or even a soft pink wearer…but I’m making an effort to broaden my range of products to include softer lip products to counter-balance the bold colors I’m most drawn to. This Super Orgasm lip gloss seems to fit the bill, and is rumored to not be too sticky which is my chief complaint of lip gloss.
2. Laura Mercier ‘Secret Camouflage’ Powder
I’m in need of a good pressed powder for my purse, so I’ve spent some time looking at powders recently and I’m really drawn to this one. I have a loose powder by Laura Mericer and am very impressed with it, as I am all Laura Mercier products. But, since I have loose powders, I thought I’d check into this pressed powder. It has received rave reviews and is even used by *gasp* Oprah! Sounds like a winner to me 🙂
3. Lancome ‘Artliner’ Precision Point Eyeliner
Look, I’m not the greatest when it comes to liquid eyeliner. I’m okay owning up to that. But I’ve decided I’d be a whole lot better if I had the most amazing tool. And from everything I’ve heard, this baby is the one. Lancome quickly turned me onto them recently when they were the big winner of my EPIC search for the perfect foundation. Their Teint Miracle foundation is a dream…and I’m pretty hard to please when it comes to foundation (hence the epic saga of a search). So this is a must have in my book.
4. M.A.C. Blush in ‘Well Dressed’
This is the only M.A.C. item on this list, not because I don’t want a lot of things from M.A.C. but because I feel I’m already familiar with the brand and want to step out from the veil a little bit. This blush though, is one I’ve eyed every time I go to their counter. And yes, okay, I know above I didn’t want a traditional pink blush from NARS, but since I’ve wanted this for a while…and since I plan on stopping at the MAC counter and feel bad not getting anything, this baby just might be mine 🙂
(Side Note: MAC’s Holiday collection also goes on sale this weekend FYI)
5. Yves Saint Laurent ‘Pink In Devotion’ Lipstick:
If you read my September Favorites, you know that YSL lipstick is quickly becoming a real favorite of mine. I just love the formula. It’s not just any lipstick formula that is equally as bold and long lasting as it is moisturizing. YSL definitely fits the bill though. To boot, not only is the formula and color range beautiful, the packaging is hands down the most luxurious packaging of any lipstick on the market. Case closed.
6. NARS Blush in ‘Seduction’
You didn’t think I could get my makeup done by NARS and not have a blush in mind to try did you? Of course you didn’t. While traditional pink might not be a color I need right now, a good deep berry pink is. All of the pink blushes I have right now are more soft, and as we head into the colder months of winter, I really need a deep pink blush like this one. And since NARS is famous for their blushes, of course I have to get one.
7. Dior ‘Forever’ Pressed Powder:
As stated above, I need a pressed powder for my purse. The Laura Mercier powder is one I stumbled upon looking at. This powder, however, is one I’ve heard and read countless great reviews on. Some say this is the ‘Best Powder Ever’ so naturally I have to give it a look. One thing that really interests me about this powder is that it has a SPF of 25. Since my foundation nor moisturizer contain SPF anymore…I really like the sound of that in a powder.
8. Laura Mercier ‘Silk Creme’ Foundation
Product I’m 100% Buying: This
As I shared above with Lancome, the Miracle Teint is a recent ‘Holy Grail’ find and is brilliant for an everyday foundation. It’s truly the easiest foundation to wear and has a gorgeous finish. If I had to choose a complaint about it though, it would be that it takes a lot of product to get a heavy finish. Most days I’m not looking for a heavy foundation, but I’ve heard and read time and time again how great this is to get more coverage on days you feel you need it…and that you need barely any product to get great coverage. I’ve always been afraid of ‘heavy’ foundations because I don’t want them to show and look all cake-y and gross, but I trust Laura Mercier enough as a brand to believe this will not do that (and of course none of the thousand reviews I read stated that). I’m actually really excited to buy this. (Review sure to follow!)
9. Laura Mercier ‘Undercover Pot’
Confession time: I’m an insomniac. Ever since I was a child, I just cannot sleep well at all. And, when I do…I can bet 100% that I won’t the next night. Being an insomniac comes with many downfalls, one of the biggest is a bad under-eye area. This seems to be a miracle product for insomniacs (short of a good night sleep of course) and so it’s top on my list of things to be looking at this weekend.
10. Yves Saint Laurent ‘Volume Effet Faux Cils Baby Doll’ Mascara:
There are a lot of mascaras out there, and many you hear great things about. But when it came to picking a ‘Wishlist’ mascara, I was most drawn to this one. I’ve seen several beauty gurus name this as their absolute favorite mascara. I’m talking people who probably own 20+ mascaras are naming this the best thing to happen to mascara ever. And such rave reviews can’t go ignored can they? Surely not!
So there are my list of Top 10 Wishlist Items for the Nordstrom Pretty Party. I, of course, will keep you all posted on what products I actually purchase, as well as review them for you. We’re heading into the Christmas season so it’s fun to start thinking of wishlist items for yourself. What beauty items would be on your Christmas Wishlist?
Oh, and if you live in the Cincinnati area and want to register for the Pretty Party, which kicks off at 8:30 am Saturday (the 26th) with the Beauty Show, visit their Facebook page for details on how to get your tickets.
