I feel super guilty about how long this has taken me to get this review up. Why? Because I made you guys miss out on a really amazing price. But I didn’t want to neglect this palette all together so I decided to put this up anyway.
Late August I was doing some late night shopping on Sephora‘s website and they were having a blowout sale on Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes. I picked up two palettes for $10 a piece, that were priced $34-$40. Actually, I picked up three because I accidentally purchased two of these. The price was so low I didn’t even notice when I checked out. Amazing, right? (My mom is now the happy owner of the second.) I assumed these were a) discontinued or b) due for updated packaging. And, at least with this one it is the later. (I honestly haven’t even opened the second one because I was waiting to review this one first. Definitely will do that tomorrow). Now, you cannot find this for $10 anymore but you can find this with it’s updated packaging for $34, which is still a pretty good price I think for the quality of this palette. Pick it up at Sephora, Ulta, or at Urban Decay. The new packaging also comes with a shadow primer as an added bonus, so that’s pretty cool and sort of makes up for the price jump from the $10 bargain I rudely neglected to blog, tweet, or anything about. (Honestly so sorry! Never again!)
I actually think these pictures I took ages ago are pretty lame, but as I’ve used this several times now, so will just go with it. But, regardless, sorry!! (I’m full of apologies today.)
The palette consists of 10 shadows, all with great shimmer to them…and in a nice range of colors. I like that you can create really any color palette look you’d ever want with just this palette alone. At first, I was a little disappointed that this palette contains no matte shadows, as I often think all shimmer eye looks can look a bit strange. But the more I practiced with this, the more I great to love it.
The quality is incredible. Each shadow is extremely pigmented and you can just lightly touch with your finger or brush and pick up more than enough. So, the color payoff of this palette is intense. In fact, you have to be a careful to go lightly when gathering shadow so you don’t overdo it. I think that’s why I didn’t like this palette the first time I used it…I thought my face looked I scarcely survived Attack of the Shadow! Now that I’m familiar, I can create whole eye looks, including liner, out of this palette with no problem.
Included shadows are:
Smog: Deep bronze
Oil Slick: Deep black
Last Call: Wine, berry, purple
Maui Wowie: Gold
Shattered: Blue (this actually looks really beautiful with Chopper. Introducing me to a new color combo that I love: blue/brown)
Polyester Bride: Vivid white
Sin: Lighter brown/tan
We all know the reputation of Urban Decay when it comes to eyeshadows is very impressive, and I vote that this palette (though skeptical at first) has definitely won me over. I’m only so so sorry that all of the Fashion Weeks kept me busy all September long and you guys missed out on that great deal. Unless you care about having the most updated packaging, which I doubt any of you really do.
Anyone else try or have this palette? Let me know if you’re in love with it too and what color combinations you like best.
Talk to you guys later!
