Happy Beauty Haul Everyone!
When I think about my introduction to makeup as a young girl, I think of my grandmother and her annual purchases of the Estee Lauder beauty boxes for Christmas gifts. Each year the brand put out gorgeous box sets with everything you need in your makeup collection. There were eyeshadow palettes and blushes. There were lipsticks and lip liners. There were mascaras and eye pencils. And of course there were also face and cheek brushes to pull everything together. It is essentially the perfect Christmas gift for any female, no matter the age. But it was truly essential for me as I grew into a makeup wearer. Estee Lauder taught me how to wear makeup pretty much. Thank you Grandma for those amazing gifts!
Now, some time has past since then and the brand sort of got back-burnered by me. In the past few months though, I’ve rediscovered how gorgeous their products are with several brush and eyeshadow purchases that make me very happy. And while I did not intend to buy anything from Estee Lauder at Saturday’s Nordstrom event (not for lack of wanting, I just wanted to try new things)…the products I got from them are my very favorite!
Note: I did not intend for this event to turn into so many posts. It’s just in photographing my products I realized it would be way too much to share everything at once and decided to go by brand. Stay tuned for Laura Mercier next 🙂
I did however start with Estee Lauder because, as I said, I’m most excited about my new goodies!! They had the best gift with purchase I have ever seen. You will not BELIEVE all the stuff that came in it, with a minimum purchase of a mere $45. That is INCREDIBLE! Laura Mercier I think had a $95 minimum and their gift was no where near as great. This gift with purchase is still available at Nordstrom so definitely act on it.
So let’s get into it 🙂
That’s a lot of stuff for only $45 right? Yes! I love that this gift bag is an actual clutch. It’s an adorable black and cream clutch which is very on trend for fall right now, and I absolutely will wear this as a clutch to one of the upcoming events I have lined up for the holiday season.
Now, I know I told you I didn’t intend to shop at Estee Lauder, but what sold me on the brand was the red lip on Jessica, the Brand Manager of the counter. She was so kind to check on us several times as we perused the counter after the show and then again while awaiting our makeup appointments at Laura Mercier (as the scheduler messed up, twice). She was so sweet, and the whole morning I noticed her amazing lip. So of course, I asked what she was wearing and she pronounced it to be their new lip lacquer. My ears perked up big time at ‘lip lacquer’ as I love them. I don’t like lip gloss, but love lipstick…and it’s the perfect marriage of the two. She rushed us over to have our lips done up. And I fell in love!
This lip lacquer is very long lasting. Not only did Jessica vouch that she hadn’t touched hers up since she put it on at 7 am (6 hours prior), but I can attest to this too as the Laura Mercier artist worked ages and ages at trying to get it off to redo my lips in one of their products (penance for the mix up? haha). I then wore this on Monday and love it. Because the product is so tacky, it does stay on for a very very long time.
This is the one I got:
Pure Color High Intensity Lip Lacquer in Ruby Glow
These are better than the Rimmel Apocalips, and you guys know how much I love those. They seriously last forever…even through eating and drinking. I’m definitely going to be picking up more of these. Naturally I went for the deep red first as I’m obsessed with red lips (naturally haha), but there are deep plum and softer shades I’m also lusting after.
Before being introduced to these lip products though, I already had it in mind to get a blush. I suffered a disappointing reaction to the NARS blush I was after (see wishlist post). It swatched poorly (very poorly really) and makes me question the high opinion of NARS blushes even more. I like a blush that has a great color transfer. While their colors themselves are incredible, I just don’t think they transfer well at all. Estee Lauder, however, makes incredible blushes and so I had a few in mind.
The one I went with though, is one I never would have guessed. When the artist did my lip, she was kind enough to throw on a blush for me too. I LOVED it and said what is it? (Obviously wanting to buy it) When she showed me I was shocked! It looks so different on than it does in the packaging.
I wanted to share this story first before showing you the picture. Here it is though:
Pure Color Blush in ‘Alluring Rose’
The appearance of this has more brown undertones than it does on. Stupid me forgot to swatch this in my pictures for you and I left my camera at work, so you’ll have to take my word on it. It is really more pink on the cheeks,
One thing she did that I really loved was use this as an eyeshadow, brushing this above my crease to pull the look together. This is something I’ve never tried before with a blush but really loved it. I don’t think I could do that with my pinky-pink blushes or orange tones, but for a desert rose shade like this it works beautifully. So that’s a new suggestion for you on how to use a blush 🙂
Now onto the gift with purchase!
Pure Color Long-Lasting Shimmer Lipstick in ‘Rubellite’
Estee Lauder is famous for their long lasting lipsticks, so I was shocked to receive a full-sized lipstick in this anyway…let alone one that I really love. Usually gift-with-purchase bags include a lipstick shade that I find rather ‘meh’ but this Rubellite is gorgeous. It’s a punchy pink with a soft shimmer to it. I’m very excited to wear this.
Here is the lip lacquer and lipstick swatches side-by-side:
Sumptuous Mascara in ‘Extreme Black’
I’ve used this mascara two days in a row now, and am already sold on buying the full size. Talk about a monster brush right? It’s magical. It lengthens and volumizes my lashes like no other! I had planned on buying a YSL mascara, but do to lack of help at the counter didn’t…and now I think I won’t even bother. This works so well, that even without curling my lashes this morning I thought ‘Wow!’ whenever I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror. It’s amazing guys!
Check out this gorgeous eyeshadow palette. I would pay for this thing I love it so much, I probably would’ve bought it on the spot. To receive this in a gift bag seems like the best gift item ever. It includes 7 shadows that all compliment each other well. Included are:
1. Sugar Cube: a satin finish highlight. It’s a crisp white
2. Tranquil Mood: a satin finish that’s a gorgeous cool pink with hints of violet
3. Nocturnal Blue: This is a deeper blue, almost purple shadow with a satin finish
4. Amazing Grey: A shimmer finished medium grey.
5. Iridescent Violet: As the name suggests, this is a violet…this is a ‘satin’ finish but does have shimmer through it.
6. Amethyst Spark: A gorgeous purple! This is a shimmer but seems to have more of a satin finish to me. Either way, I love it.
7. Lavish Mink: A dark, deep grey with a matte finish. This is perfect for creating a smokey look.
I love the quality of Estee Lauder shadows. As mentioned above, I have made some recent shadow purchases from them and am yet to be disappointed. I used this palette this morning to create a grey and purple smokey eye and they blend amazingly well. I think these blend more easily than Urban Decay shadows. I hold Urban Decay shadows in high esteem, so that’s a big compliment and I mean it!
Intense Kajal Eyeliner in ‘Blackened Cocoa’ ‘Blackened Plum’ and ‘Blackened Sapphire’
I’ve haven’t used an eye pencil from Estee Lauder since my last received gift set, which was a while ago. That was before I really knew how to use eyeliner even, so I’m really excited to try these out. I love each color, but the Blackened Sapphire is the one I’m most excited about as navy is so big this fall. I’ll keep you posted on how I like these 🙂
Advanced Time Zone Age Reversing Line/Wrinkle Cream
The skincare products of Estee Lauder are very well thought of, and this cream is no stranger to those compliments. This is actually a rather deluxe sample, weighing in at .5 oz. It’s rather luxe in its packaging as well. I’m really excited about this. I’ve gotten in a niche with my Philosophy skincare products, and am thinking I need to branch out.
Advanced Night Repair
This product needs no introduction. It’s probably the longest running, highly saluted, skincare product: EVER! If you lined up 100 people and asked them to name the product they hear the most about from Estee Lauder, I swear at least 90% of the people would say this. It’s legendary.
And that’s everything! Quite a bit of amazing goodies. I couldn’t be more pleased with my experience at Estee Lauder and thank the Beauty Manager of my Kenwood location, Jessica, very much for being so thoughtful and adorable. It couldn’t have been a better experience! I think Estee Lauder is becoming my favorite line of makeup guys, legit.
Stay tune to see what I got at Laura Mercier. I love them a lot as well, and I have lots of great things to share 🙂
