To celebrate the glitz and glamour of the best Cannes Film Festival in recent history, I’m counting down the 20 Best Cannes 2017 Red Carpet Looks. The festival may have come to an end, but my guess? We’ll be remembering these looks well into the future!
Hi there, dreamers! As sad as it is to see the 2017 Cannes Film Festival come to an end, I think we can all agree it’s one for the record books. In its 70th year, the festival featured 12 days of films and the red carpet was a parade of couture. Seriously, the stars really brought their A-game this time around, pulling all the stops!
Selecting the 20 Best Cannes 2017 Red Carpet Looks
Usually, when I round up “best of” posts, I keep that number at 10. But, there was simply NO WAY I could only choose 10 favorites looks from this year’s festival carpets. So, I pulled together all of my favorite looks (about 40) and, after great deliberation, whittled that number down to twenty top picks. From Cannes darlings Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning, to Hollywood legends like Uma Thurman…it’s an extensive list filled with high fashion and glamour.
Are you ready to dive in? Prepare to SWOON!
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Ralph and Russo Couture
As soon as this Ralph and Russo hit the Spring 2017 couture runway in Paris, I knew it was meant for a major red carpet moment at Cannes. No doubt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan pulls this off beautifully! Absolutely love that she matched the extreme glamour of the gown with elegant, Old Hollywood hair and makeup. Truly stunning!
Araya Hargate in Ralph and Russo Couture
Araya Hargate attended the opening ceremony of Cannes looking like a maternal GODDESS. Truly. I actually put together an entire post on her red carpet looks so I won’t say much more on this one — other than it’s FAB! You can read the full post with all of her Cannes looks, here.
Bella Hadid in Dior Couture
Bella Hadid definitely turned a lot of heads at the Cannes Film Festival this year in a number of looks, but my ultimate favorite of her looks is this stunning red Dior gown. I love when Bella sets aside the shock appeal and “naked” dresses, in favor of true glamour. As a face of Dior Beauty, it was wonderful to see her step out for a memorable fashion moment in Dior. Bella, we like this side of you best! xo
Coco Rocha in Georges Hobeika Couture
Two unsung heroes of fashion? Coco Rocha and Georges Hobeika. Both came together for a striking red carpet moment with this exquisite blush gown. I first spotted this on Coco’s Instagram story and my jaw hit the floor. There are so many beautiful elements to this gown, from the soft embroidering to the timeless ruffles and lace bodice. FAB!
Diane Kruger in Dior Couture
Diane Kruger is no stranger to Cannes and this year she made her first red carpet appearance in this stunning Dior couture creation that looks like a modern day Cinderella ball gown. I was literally stalking the Cannes live stream for a first spotting of ‘Bae’ on the red carpet – and she did not disappoint. This tiered moonstone gown is legendary.
Elle Fanning in Rodarte
Elle Fanning is no stranger to Rodarte and I’m so glad they teamed up for The Beguiled red carpet. This is a custom gown, making me hold out hope that Rodarte will continue to create streamlined, red carpet looks. Yes, they’re fabulous at the avant garde but between this on Elle at Cannes and Brie Larson earlier this year at the Golden Globes, may the Rodarte duo continue to excel at custom, high-glam gowns!
Fan Bingbing in Ralph and Russo Couture
I’m honestly kind of surprised that my favorite look of Fan Bingbing’s wasn’t on the red carpet. This year, she was a member of the jury panel and she kicked things off wearing Ralph and Russo Spring 2017 couture. I love the retroness of this suit with her prim makeup and bob haircut.
Isabelle Huppert in Gucci
While all eyes were on Nicole Kidman for the most part, Isabelle Huppert had a killer run at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival. The French actress is a true style icon and I absolutely adore her in this colorful Gucci, which is perfect for a seaside afternoon photo call. She looks absolutely FABULOUS – and knows it. Well. Done.
Jessica Chastain in Armani Prive
I was holding out hope that Jessica Chastain would make an appearance in orange Armani Prive – and she did not disappoint. With her beautiful hair color, this is one of her most striking looks of all time. In my book, anyway. I absolutely love how well she pulls of swish, gowns like this one. She’s unreal and her love of color brings me LIFE!
Kirsten Dunst in Schiaparelli Couture
Kirsten Dunst is always one of my favorites on the red carpet and for the premier of her film The Beguiled, she selected this gorgeous lilac Schiaparelli gown that compliments her curves so beautifully! Not to mention, she has some positively exquisite earrings on. People made a bit of a fuss over her shedding happy tears on the red carpet, but I thought it was touching and she looked simply gorgeous. This will be hard for her to top. It’s seriously SO GOOD!
Liu Wen in Givenchy
One thing about Cannes, you can never discount anyone from making a major red carpet appearance. That brings me to Liu Wen, who is a Chinese model, knocking it out of the park in Givenchy. This gown is next level brilliant. Truly. It makes me weep inside all over again about Riccardo Tisci stepping down as creative director. I mean, wow.
Marion Cotillard in Armani Prive
It comes as NO surprise that Marion Cotillard is included on my list of the 20 best Cannes 2017 red carpet looks. The surprise? That it’s not in Dior. No. In fact, the longtime face of Dior seems to be totally FREE from her contract (finally) and I could not be more pleased! This shimmering midnight blue Armani is truly the best thing she’s worn in ages. It makes me SO excited for this next chapter in her life as a fashionista. Yes!
Araya Hargate in Zuhair Murad Couture
In another striking gown from the Spring 2017 couture runways, Araya Hargate continued her reign at maternity fashion in this vibrant Zuhair Murad. This is a gown I don’t think I’ll ever forget. It’s that good. It’s a true fairy tail gown and she wears it perfectly. *standing ovation*
Nicole Kidman in Calvin Klein by Appointment
Nicole Kidman made the first major Raf Simons for Calvin Klein red carpet moment – and I could not be more pleased. She wore this ballerina gown to the premiere of The Killing of a Sacred Deer and I admittedly spazzed a bit about how insanely fabulous she looked. If anyone ever questions why Nicole Kidman is an icon, direct them to this look. For reals. It doesn’t get any better!
Praya Lundberg in Rami Kadi Couture
I just had to Google who Praya Lundberg is (a model), but when I saw this on the red carpet my heart skipped a beat. I love the geometric, angular stripes of the gown, the sporty halter neckline, the feathered skirt. It’s all so good!
Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann
Tilda Swinton, may I have some of your coolness? Please? Tilda is no stranger to Cannes and she wore this custom Haider Ackermann to her much-hyped Okja premiere. It’s so swanky and cool on its own, but add that swish up-do and it’s drop dead flawless. Thank you, Tilda…truly. You are the gift that keeps on giving!
Uma Thurman in Atelier Versace
Leave it to Uma Thurman to show up looking effortlessly flawless on the Cannes carpet. This makes me want to go on a hunger strike, because her body is simply insane and Atelier Versace compliments her so nicely!!
Jessica Chastain in Givenchy Couture
Another exquisite Riccardo Tisci creation graces my picks for the 20 Best Cannes 2017 red carpet looks! Enter Jessica Chastain in this lilac Givenchy couture that has so much intrigue and flare.
Elle Fanning in Vivienne Westwood Couture
Elle Fanning truly become the Princess of the 2017 Cannes Film Festival but it was her very first look that I loved…THE MOST! Vivienne Westwood may be a bit kooky with her ready-to-wear, but the woman EXCELS at couture gowns. This is a star-is-born, major red carpet moment that I think we’ll all remember on Elle…always. Iconic! And, I’m so glad she’s now a face of L’Oreal because…LOOK AT THAT MAKEUP! *swoon*
*sigh* It’s sad to bid farewell to the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, isn’t it? What with the endless, steady stream of high fashion and glamour. It’s almost like we’re all turning back into a pumpkin now and just have to go about our everyday lives. Truly, the Cannes Film Festival is one of the remaining fairy tales that exist and I’m ELATED over how next level the red carpets were this year. I wager, more than one of these looks will make it onto my annual top 10 best dressed of the year list.
On that note, I wish you all a fabulous week ahead! I hope you’re Memorial Day weekend was relaxing and you’re feeling recharged for another work week. I’m off to rewatch a little House of Cards season 4 before tucking into bed. The new season drops at 3 am! *woo*
