Well, the 2017 Golden Globes took place on Sunday and the red carpet featured some not so hot looks. Let’s put our judging caps on and review the 10 Worst Dressed looks together.
The 2017 Golden Globes were quite a delight to watch! This year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association had a whole string of new television and movies to dig into and they awarded quite a few surprise trophies through the night. I for one had to pick my jaw up off the floor when Natalie Portman lost for her stunning portrayal of Jackie Kennedy in Jackie. (She lost to Isabelle Huppert of the French film Elle, which has sky-rocketed to the top of my must-see list now.)
Fashion wise, things were kind of surprising as well at the 2017 Golden Globes! The red carpet featured a lot of usual fashion heavy weights like Blake Lively, Emma Stone, Nicole Kidman and Jessica Chastain. With ladies like that in attendance, I was expecting GREAT things to come. Shockingly though, great things didn’t necessarily come to be.
If you haven’t had a chance to see the Golden Globes’ red carpet looks yet, I’ve rounded all of them up for your convenience in this Facebook album, here. After some serious deliberation (as serious as you can get with a glass of Champagne in one hand), I whittled down the list of attendees to my Best and Worst Dressed Lists.
Now? We review the worst. Sadly, this list features several women who I just adore and think their stylists must have some sort of wicked vendetta against them. Surely these lovely ladies are worth better sartorial justice! Alas, it is what it is. Let’s get going, shall we?
The 10 Worst Dressed Dames of the 2017 Golden Globes
Anna Chlumsky in Roland Mouret
I love Anna Chlumsky so much, especially her portrayal of Amy on Veep, and it pains me greatly to include her on my Worst Dressed List. She’s such a lovely gal, why can’t her people do better for her? Amy, I will gladly help you find a better dress for the SAG awards. Call me anytime. Seriously. Love you! xo
Anna Kendrick in Vionnet
When it comes to dressing, I think you should go for the garments that are your body’s best friend. This gown, despite its best efforts, is simply not doing Anna any favors.
On Twitter, I saw her chest-piece referred to as a flotation device and a labia. Now, those are not MY words…but I also can’t completely disagree with the observations. But mostly, this is making me really hungry for a cupcake!
Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhuillier
Now, in MY words…I declared this a Monique Lhuillier seashell and I do stand by that. On second thought, maybe this is more of a jellyfish. (Not good either way.)
Jessica Chastain in Prada
The Prada devil rears its ugly head again! To be fair, I think this gown has the potential to be lovely if properly tailored. Unfortunately for Jessica, it’s not…and we’re left with weirdness throughout the bodice that is an injustice to her beauty. All-in-all, I think this is one very unflattering look. Prada, get it together.
Liz Hernandez in Alexandre Vauthier Couture
Two things I know for sure: 1) There’s no shame in going up a size. 2) There’s absolutely NO WAY this was custom designed in the atelier to fit Liz. The Alexandre Vauthier team is FAR too great to misfire a fit this badly.
Nicole Kidman in Alexander McQueen
Sometimes a gown moves down the runways of Paris and has me ooh-ing and ahh-ing. Then, it pops up on a red carpet and I start to scratch my head while wondering: what the hell was I thinking?? Friends, that’s this dress in a nutshell. Maybe when I fell in love with it last fall I was sleep deprived. Maybe I envisioned it in a more editorial way, like in a killer spread in W. Maybe I thought it would land on someone younger. Who knows. All I know NOW is that this is a mess of Tsunami proportions.
Sarah Jessica Parker in Vera Wang
Let it be said: Vera Wang is not necessarily a good friend to the Golden Globes red carpet. Case in point? This. Let it also be said, that while Sarah Jessica Parker played the famously stylish Carrie Bradshaw, she is not immune from making a fashion faux pas herself. Case in point? This.
Sarah Paulson in Marc Jacobs
A good lipstick has the power to turn a whole look around. Sadly, Sarah was not wearing that lipstick.
Sienna Miller in Michael Kors
Last year, Michael Kors designed a similar Fabletics look for Kate Hudson (here). This year, he teamed up with Sienna Miller. My guess, Michael Kors mistakenly believes the Golden Globes are a fitness contest where Pilates fans from around the world gather to drink champagne and show off their obliques. Of course, now that I think about it. He might not be so wrong about that after all. *sips Champagne*
Well lovelies, it’s about 11 o’click as I finish writing this post and I’m thinking to myself “Oh goody! I can squeeze in an episode of The Crown before bed!” And so, on that note – I shall leave you here. Of course, I would love to collect your thoughts on who looked their best (and worst) on the 2017 Golden Globes red carpet!
As I mentioned above, I pulled together all of the red carpet looks in a Facebook album for you. That’s a convenient one-stop-shop way to see what everyone wore at once. But, I ALSO have cultivated a Best Dressed List that is calling for your attention, here!
Thank you SO much for reading and I wish you a wonderful week! The next big awards show is the SAG Awards on January 29th. Mark your calendars because the festivities will continue!
As always, stay stylish and keep chasing your dreams!
