The 2016 Emmy Awards took place Sunday and there was A LOT of really bad hair on the red carpet.
I sit writing this as the 2016 Emmy Awards are coming to an end – and I’m absolutely delighted by the diversity of this year’s winners. As much as I adore the Emmys, they tend to favor a certain breed of television and it’s been very nice to see shows like Orphan Black, Bloodline, Mr. Robot, American Crime and so on being awarded trophies tonight. I mean, we all love our HBO and Showtime…but it’s nice to see the “wealth” sprinkled around a bit, no?
To boot, the red carpet this year was pretty darn fabulous. In case you missed it, I shared my “Best Dressed List”, here – which featured some delightful surprises and exciting newcomers. As for the “worst dressed”…they were there too. Yes, indeed they were.
Be warned: my 2016 Emmy Awards “Worst Dressed” list features a lot of really bad hair. I mean, you might want to brace yourself a bit…because things are about to get pretty dicey…
Amy Poehler in Pamella Roland
Kicking things off with Amy, because I actually DO enjoy Amy’s hair. As for the dress, it’s a shame. When the gown debuted at Pamella Roland last week it was instantly my favorite of her SS17 collection. Unfortunately, Amy’s petite frame is short-cutting the dress and dramatically altering its intended fit. Amy is gorgeous. The gown is gorgeous. This is just a mismatch.
Anna Chlumsky in Christian Siriano
Another shame, because I absolutely adore Anna Chlumsky – both as a person and as her character Amy on Veep – and it breaks my heart when a favorite ends up on my “worst” list. But, this is essentially a sack. Albeit, a fancy sack…but a sack, nonetheless.
Giuliana Rancic in Georges Chakra
Fabulous dress — utterly RUINED by HORRIFIC hair.
Hari Neff in Gucci
At first glimpse, I thought “Oh, what beautiful Christmas wrapping paper!” Upon a closer look, I realized perhaps maybe not the best wrapping paper design, after all. In truth, I actually kind of like this gown. Fix the fit up a bit and it would be quite lovely on her. Major problem, though. That hair is doing NO ONE any favors.
Jill Kargman in Valentino
Without a doubt, the fanciest caterer outfit of the evening! How adorable she must look passing a tray of shrimp and Bruschetta.
Julianne Hough in Armani
Let’s be real for a moment: the slicked-back/wet hair look is much harder to pull off than anyone is willing to admit. Despite it being their favorite style, it looks horrible on the Kardashians. Julianne? It’s not working so well for you either. That said, it is making that casual towel dress look EXQUISITE by comparison…which I suppose is a plus.
Laura Carmichael in Delpozo
Once again, a beautiful dress suffering against bad hair. Delpozo deserves better — and Lady Edith, so do you!
Sofia Vergera in Atelier Versace
I’m going to ignore the (bad) hair on this to talk about the dress. It’s Atelier Versace, although it seems more like Versace wrapped in saran wrap than actual Atelier Versace, no?
Sophie Turner in Valentino
As always, stay stylish and keep chasing your dreams!
