Sarah Paulson finally got herself an Emmy – and looked darn good while doing so in Prada! See who joins her on my 2016 Emmy Awards Best Dressed List!
The 2016 Emmy Awards took place in LA on Sunday – and it was no doubt an exciting affair. Jimmy Kimmel was a great host for the occasion, Sarah Paulson finally won her first well-deserved Emmy, we bid farewell to Downton Abbey and the red carpet featured some SERIOUS knock-out looks.
As is tradition, I scoured the red carpet looking for the best and worst looks of the night and – with my glass of Cabernet in hand – I was elated to see such a diverse crowd of ladies show up for the Emmys looking flawless! Oh sure, the usual heavy hitters like Claire Danes and Kerry Washington had their (rightful) moments — but among them are some newcomers that are landing on my Best Dressed list for the *first* time.
Let’s take a moment to applaud the ladies of the 2016 Emmy Awards red carpet and celebrate the 10 best looks of the night. It was certainly a challenge to whittle the list down to 10, but I managed! Ready to see who made the cut?
10 Best Dressed at the 2016 Emmy Awards
Claire Danes in Schiaparelli
Claire Danes has had a legendary Emmy run, hasn’t she? Each and every year she slays and in this gorgeous metallic gold couture gown from Schiaparelli, she was a shoe-in to land on Best Dressed lists all over, once again. I’m a sucker for Claire. I’m a sucker for Schiaparelli. And, I’m also a sucker for metallic gold. I’m ALL IN on this look!
Ellie Kemper in Jenny Packham
How darling is Ellie Kemper, just as a person? She’s so stickin’ adorable and what a delight to see her looking so fabulous in this citrine Jenny Packham gown. Loving the hair, as well!
Kerry Washington in Brandon Maxwell
Kerry Washington is quite notably pregnant – and is proud to share that genius Brandon Maxwell is a master of maternity wear as well. Love that this doesn’t shy away from the va-va-voom, at all. She’s wearing her pregnancy with pride! Go, Kerry.
Kristen Bell in Zuhair Murad
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night for me? Kristen Bell killing it in Zuhair Murad couture. As adorable as Kristen is, she doesn’t usually elect to wear such a statement gown…but she is certainly pulling it off – big time! Absolutely perfect. 100%!
Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta
It’s sad isn’t it? To bid farewell to Downton Abbey, which has become a fixture on the red carpets for so many years. For her last turn on the carpet as a nominee for Downton, Michelle turned to ODLR – which quite honestly, is where I would probably turn for the occasion as well. Adore this tiered ruffled gown on her!
Niecy Nash in Christian Siriano
I adore Niecy Nash – and so I was THRILLED to see her show up on the Emmys red carpet looking so spot on glamorous. Truly, the hair/makeup/accessories…everything about this is perfect. Well, done!
Priyanka Chopra in Jason Wu
It’s a shame I can’t really get behind Quantico – but I can certainly get behind this Jason Wu on Priyanka. Striking!
Sarah Paulson in Prada
Sarah Paulson was quite visibly and openly nervous on the red carpet, but her nerves in no way stood in the way of letting this stunning Prada gown shine. I dare say, this is the best thing Prada has sent down the runway since Lupita Nyong’o dazzled in that Cinderella Blue at the Oscars. Gorgeous!
Tatiana Maslany in Alexander Wang
Considering she plays about one hundred characters flawlessly on Orphan Black, I’m surprise Tatiana Maslany isn’t a regular at these events. That said, I was thrilled to see her appear on the red carpet in this sporty and simplistic Alexander Wang column gown. She was one of the first to appear on the red carpet and remained in my top three all night!
Viola Davis in Marchesa
Viola Davis is one of my favorite unsung heroes of the red carpet. The woman always turns up looking killer! Absolutely adore this vivid pink Marchesa on her – that was like a true beacon on screen as the cameras panned across the Emmy Awards audience. It’s also so surprisingly understated for Marchesa, no? Win, win!
As always, stay stylish and keep chasing your dreams!
