MAKEUP: The New Tarte Tartiest Lash Paint Mascara

My ‘Cruelty-Free Makeup Monday‘ series is off – and I’m putting Tarte’s Tartiest Lash Paint mascara to the test. Does it hold up to the many other gems from Tarte’s beauty range? Let’s find out!

Tarte's 'Tartiest Lash Paint' Mascara Review - Dream in Lace

Bonjour! As you may have seen last Monday or across my social media, every Monday at Dream in Lace you will now be treated to a cruelty-free makeup review! I love makeup – you love makeup – we all love makeup. So let’s celebrate the brands that have retired the outdated practice of animal testing and are delivering beautiful products to us….cruelty-free. *woo*

When it came to select the “kick-off” product to this new series, I knew I would have to go with something from Tarte. Tarte is truly one of my favorite makeup brands, with a wide-variety of beauty products that I simply adore. From their foundations, BB cream and concealers – to their cult favorite blushes, brilliant eyeshadows and lip products. I’m in love! Dare I say, I have yet to try a product from Tarte that I didn’t instantly fall in love with?

While gazing upon my local Tarte counter, I sought out a product with a bit of mystery to it. Then, the Tartiest Lash Paint mascara caught my eye and I was high-tailing it to the till – ready to set out and give it a go. I love a good mascara, but have been shelving my favorites from Dior and YSL because they sadly still participate in animal testing.

Could the Tartiest Lash Paint mascara be every bit as wonderful – without being mean to bunnies?

I was filled with hope!

What kind of look will Tarte’s Tartiest Lash Paint mascara bring to my lashes?

Tarte claims this mascara will increase lash volume by 2700%! Quite a lofty goal, right? While I don’t know about that extreme of a percentage, it will give a dramatic boost in length and volume to your lashes. I also consider this mascara to leave a nice ‘fluttery’ effect that nicely spreads your lashes for a fuller look.

What colors does the mascara come in?

As of right now, the mascara only comes in one option: jet black.

Does the mascara bleed or smudge-off through the day?

I’ve been wearing this mascara for about two weeks now – including in EXTREME humidity – and have had virtually no issues with bleeding or flaking. In fact, its longevity is probably its biggest selling point in my eyes. I would define it as long-lasting and ‘water-resistant’ all around.

How much is Tarte’s Lash Paint mascara and where can I purchase it?

The mascara is $23 and can be purchased directly from Tarte, or retailers like Ulta and Sephora. Some department stores, like Nordstrom, carry Tarte products as well.

What kind of wand does the Tartiest Lash Paint mascara have?

The applicator is plastic and somewhat reminds me of YSL’s Baby Doll mascara, albeit a bit fatter.

I know it’s cruelty free, but is the Tartiest Lash Paint mascara vegan-friendly as well?

Yes! This mascara is completely vegan-friendly, thank goodness.

How well does the mascara apply?

For an exciting show and tell, I took a snap of myself before applying the mascara and after so you can see what kind of results you can expect. I have pretty long lashes on their own, but you can tell that without the mascara they’re virtually un-detectable. After applying the mascara, there’s a visible boost to the length of my lashes and my eyes are more clearly defined.

What are your overall thoughts on the Tartiest Lash Paint mascara?

Overall, I’m pretty impressed. I think the price of $23 is reasonable when compared to my favorite YSL and Dior mascaras (although, those are not cruelty-free). It’s a reasonably great substitute to YSL’s Baby Doll mascara. The key difference there is the Tarte mascara requires a bit more effort when applying to avoid your lashes from getting too ‘stringy’. All-in-all, I like it and am VERY impressed with how well it holds up on very long days outside in high heat and humidity. Definitely a summer tested and approved product!

As always – thank you so very much for reading and please let me know if you have any suggestions on further cruelty-free makeup products you’d like to see me review on Dream in Lace. And, if you too have put this mascara to the test, let me know your thoughts!

Wishing everyone a terrific week! My posting schedule is Monday, Wednesday and Friday – so stay tuned for two more posts this week and my next cruelty-free makeup review on Monday!
