January Beauty and Entertainment Favorites

Happy Monday dreamers! It feels like ages since I’ve shared my monthly beauty favorites on Dream in Lace! Having skipped December for my Best Makeup of 2014 post (here), I’ve been biting my tongue on the more recent beauty and non-beauty related things I’ve been seriously loving (except for on my Twitter, which you should totally follow btw)!

For January, I’ve got a bunch of new discoveries…as well as one seriously awesome returning favorite. Since I’ve been in recovery from back surgery, I’ve also been turning to Netflix and my bookshelf more often, leading to some seriously fun book and television favorites.

Get you pen and paper handy, because you’re gonna want to jot these things down. Let’s go!

January Beauty and Life Favorites

Dior Iconic Mascara and Marc Jacobs Eyeliner

Dior Iconic Overcurl Mascara
Not since I discovered the genius behind YSL mascaras have I fallen quite so hard for a fluttering lash product. Dior’s Iconic Overcurl mascara has been heavy in my makeup rotation for many months now. I love how lifting this is, with zero clumping. The Overcurl mascara truly does ‘over curl’ your lashes, giving you loads of volume that stays all day. Go ahead, give this a try!

Marc Jacobs Precision Pen Eyeliner
In the ongoing love-affair between Kelly and Marc Jacobs Beauty, I’m very taken by the Precision Pen eyeliner. It’s a jet, JET black liner pen that gives you a swift line in no time. It’s also waterproof, so you can be sure your liner is going to stay put until you tell it to go away.

Tarte BB Tinted Moisturizer

Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer
I did review Tarte’s BB Tinted Moisturizer (here), but I love it so much I couldn’t escape mentioning it once again. This lightweight product will even out your skin tone nicely, while giving you a refreshed light glow that’s quite addictive. Literally, since picking this up, all of my foundations have gone ignored and collecting dust on my vanity. It’s like living with a whole new face!

Tarte Cheek palette and Smashbox Disco Rose Lip Gloss

Tarte Park Avenue Princess Palette
In general, I’d say I’m having a love affair with Tarte Cosmetics. They’ve got such an incredible line of products, and another favorite is the 3-in-1 cheek palette that I reach for every day. I love multi-functional products, but each element of the palette stands strongly on its own. First up is the gorgeous, warm-tone matte bronzer that closely resembles The Body Shop’s Honey Bronzer, which is so good it made its way onto my Best Makeup of 2014 list. Also included is the super flattering dusty rose blush and a natural highlighter. Each powder blends easily and will give you a beautiful, but natural look.

Smashbox Lip Gloss in ‘Disco Rose’
Another product I can’t stop raving about? Smashbox’s lip gloss in Disco Rose (full review). I’ve always been a lipstick girl, but this lip gloss is so great is has me converting to gloss. It’s a smooth, creamy application that has quite a built of pigment. You can wear this more lightly, or build it up for a more full-coverage look. It’s the perfect lip gloss!

C. Booth Lemon Sugar Lotion + Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle

C. Booth Lemon Sugar Body Lotion
*Holy Grail Alert* I didn’t think there was a body lotion that could reach ‘holy grail’ status, but that was before I discovered C. Booth and their 4-in-1 multi-action body lotion at Marshalls. I fell immediately in love with this lotion, and upon Googling was thrilled to learn it’s available at your local Ulta. Honestly at $9.99 I don’t think you could find a better lotion at a better price. This all-in-one lotion is moisturizing, exfoliating and protecting. The Lemon Sugar scent is my personal favorite, as it is light and refreshing – but there are other scents available. I’ve already gone through one huge bottle of this and am still in love! Honestly, I don’t think I’ll be switching body lotions for a very long time!

Beauty Protector ‘Protect and Detangle’
An old favorite is Beauty Protector’s ‘Protect and Detangle’ leave-in conditioner, but as this is only exclusively available through BirchBox I haven’t used it in a while. I’m not a fan of Birchbox and it was annoying to place a special order just for this guy – but honestly, life isn’t as good without it. I use this on wet hair before brushing and blow drying. It is a conditioner, detangler and heat protectant all-in-one. Also, it smells delicious! Sometimes I spritz this just for the sake of smelling it. It’s so good I’ll have to keep placing those special Birchbox orders because I need this in my life, forever.

Hart of Dixie on Netflix

Hart of Dixie
Oh my goodness, how cute is Hart of Dixie? It’s kind of hokey/cheesy, but is so much fun to watch and has surprisingly awesome fashion! It’s like a southern Gossip Girl. For those who don’t know, Rachel Bilson plays a young hotshot doctor of NYC who moves to a small southern town named Bluebell. There’s hot guys, lots of fashion and seriously charming accents!

Tove Lo Queen of the Clouds

Tove Lo ‘Queen of the Clouds’
On Lorde’s curated Mockingjay Part I soundtrack, I discovered Tove Lo with her seriously awesome track ‘Scream My Name‘. I loved it so much that I went ahead and picked up her album, which is like pop heaven. Tove Lo’s pop is sort of dark and has a very club-like atmosphere, making it perfect for workouts, drives in the car or just bopping around your bedroom. The album’s available on Spotify, so definitely check it out!

The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu

The Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu
It’s been more than a minute since I’ve had a good binge fest of a book series. But, in January I finally got around to reading the Legend Trilogy by Marie Lu, and once I started I seriously couldn’t put it down. It’s a fast-paced, action-packed and seriously fun dystopian trilogy that I whizzed through in 3 days. Yup! The books are apparently optioned for a film, rumored to come out in 2016 – so get your hands on these quick!

Homeland Season 4

Homeland (Season 4)

I’ve loved Homeland since its inception, but season 4 took everything I already loved about the show…and put it on crack. Now that the Brody family is gone, there’s nothing anchoring this show to ‘normalcy’. Meaning, what we have in season 4 is non-stop terrorist/CIA action that will give you whiplash. I won’t give anything away, but the end of the first episode had me standing with my mouth gaping open. It’s such an intense and incredible thrill ride! Season 4 is definitely their best season yet and I’m DYING to see where things go next!

What things were you loving in January?
